Sorry to post this up, but after seeing some truly amazing performances at avon this weekend, i feel inspired to complete my turbo mini. I've set myself the target of mini in the park (so 20th august)

Only problem is, the car is at my parents house in tadley where the drive is uneven and impossible to work on. My tools and my garage are 8 miles away in basingstoke.

So, in return for food, money and beer, would anyone be kind enough to trailer my car up the road for me please?

if I was local I would buddy, but it would cost me a fortune round trip with fuel towing a trailer, if you can borrow a tailer, I can tow it for you, as I'll be in reading tomorrow

8 miles? I'd be tempted to go buy yourself a decent tow rope and tow it behind another car, assuming the brakes and steering etc work OK?

Or have you tried a couple of local recovery places, you may find for such a short distance the cost is not to great, especially if you can pay them cash *wink*

car hasn't been on the road for 4 years. all 4 tyres are dead, subframe has a HUGE hole and i assume the brakes will be crap as well. It's a shame as 8 miles is nothing. :/

Cheers Jim, really appriciate the offer, but i'm at work all day and doubt i could source a trailer that quickly.

top man!! Not sure on a day yet, although 28th and 29th July are looking clear at the moment, although thats pretty short notice.

I'm just about to order the frame, is it worth paying the extra and getting a genuine part? Also, do i need a fitting kit or can i just reuse the stuff that i take off?

I fitted a copy from minispares to my bro's and had no problems.

I would paint it in hammerite or something a few days before because the paint they put on is shit, and it won't last.

Its worth getting a fitting kit, there only about £20, theres nothing worse that starting a job like a subframe and not be able to do it in one hit.

top stuff, i'll get the minispares copy and a fitting kit then and hammerite it during the week. I'm going to get new shocks and a new exhaust and downpipe to do at the same time. Everything on this damn car is fucked!! lol

Hammerite.....ugh......

It may just be my experience of it, but for me it always seems to chip, let water underneath it, and then come off in big crusty flakes.

Personally for rear subframes a good dose of waxoyl in all the seams and across the tops of the members before fitting, and then plenty more waxoyl everywhere else afterwards is the way to go.

Waxoyl would make a better job, just always pictured it as being really messy!

My subframe has lasted 4 years with no rust using hammerite.

all down to personal prefferance really.

do you know what days you are free yet matt? Just ordering the parts this afternoon. :)

I'll probably just hammerite tbh, a lot easier.
