righto,

I'm getting prices from the guy I got to make my brake disc bells, obivously the price will decide whether its a goer or not, also i'll just be adding a little to cover postage, so you'll be getting them for the same price as me.

once i have the prices if theres still interest i'll start a group buy type thread.

Ok, back to the original topic.....

there are two (or more) types of verto, and they have different spring ratios.

the first (AP) has a larger outside diameter to the spring, but pivots in the same place giving a "wider" spring that i suspect will have a more linear spring rate. this type usually but not always has the tin retainer ring above the spring and has the wavy body plate, with the cut outs. also the spring on these is a true "cone" shape.


the other type (Valeo) has the solid, flat body plate, and just the rivets, the spring on these "kinks" up toward the release bearing at a steeper angle.




the distance from where the release bearing contacts the spring to the piviot point of the spring is 36mm for both types, however, the distance from the pivot point to where the spring contacts the "backplate" is 21.5mm for the first type with the larger spring (giving a leverage ratio of 1.67), and 14mm for the other type (giving a 2.57 ratio).


at mini in the park i was suprised to find that my RTS was harder to press than roberts or mattys, who both have stronger springs (on paper) but now knowing this, i'm speculating this is the reason as i'm sure robert and matty both have the 2.57 ratio setup, and mine is the 1.67 type.

The odd thing is that my version of the RTS is based on a Sachs clutch and is a combination of the two types.

looks like the flat spring from the AP type so will be a similar ratio to mine,

that could be heavy under foot...

in case it helps

i have 39.7mm ,17.45mm for the small discs
44.5mm and 17.9 mm for the bigger .
so ratios of ,2.275 small disc
2.48 big disc .

I belive matty did, I'm sure someone said pre verto ones fit.

i don't think anyone else has bothered.


update
pre verto ones dont fit, AP ones are also different to Valeo ones

the PCD on the AP bolt holes is also different to the Valeo and Sachs ones

Also from my measurements i get the following AP spring lever ratio at 2.41:1 and the Valeo at 2.11 That is by measuring from the centers of the contact points rather than to the outer edges

ok thanks to joe, im sorted out with these now.

ive just bought another plate so i will end up with two 1300 ones.



im going to look into making a batch of the pressure plates in steel, the only weak link left, that is if anyone is interested?

i could do flywheels aswell but as these are already available i will give that a miss for now.

I think the pressure plates is a good idea, at least then all the levarage ratios can be eradicated on the valeo type at least.

which is the best type to use as a sample? the one ive got?

i should be able to keep the cost down if i do most of the work myself, just depends on the cost of the billet.

Yes I think yours will be best to copy Andy,

It contacts the spring closer to its outside edge than any other valeo types i've seen yet.

ok i will run a vernier over it at work and work out some prices.

actually i will wait till my new one comes through to check some thicknesses.

shame it wouldnt be possible to make it from ally, could be some real weight saving to be had!

I think you should be able to loose 1/3 of its weight, from circa 1.5kg to under 1kg.

right just had a word at work and it looks like the steel pressure plates are a go.

made from EN8 and for a batch of 10 looks like the will be around £60ish

they will be based on a valeo type.

would people be interested in these?
