Im having a bit of trouble with my mini when it gets too hot.

The rear of the bonnet it raised, but in this hot weather if im constantly stopping and starting like in traffic, even though the temperature is normal on the guage, it tries to cut out when setting off from idle.

today it did it again, so i let it cool down, and then ran it with the heater on and it was a bit better, but at the next traffic lights it tried to cut out again when setting off.

Under the bonnet it sounds like something is bubbling and the sound seems to be coming from either the fuel pressure regulator or the carb.

Could it be fuel getting too hot in the carb causing it? I have had problems with hot starts too. Im not using a heat sheild i gave it away someones making replica ones on this site, might have to buy one of them.

sound like the fuel is getting too warm to me.... i'd invest in a heat shield and go from there..

in hot conditions I used to get a bubling in my fuel filter. that was on a 1293 n/a so I would guess the issue could be worse on a turbo setup

have you heat wrapped the turbo and manifold? also heat sheild on carb is a good idea if you dont have one.

The heat wrap does work but i do know have a different problem, the manifold distorts and i struggle to push it over the studs, so i drilled the stud holes and it whent on fine, next time i removed and fitted the manifold i had the same problem.

Mine bubbles after a long run but I never have trouble with it while its running, as the other guys have said, get a heat shield on it, should cure it mostly.

I personally think that re-instating the vent solenoid valve is the way to cure hot start issues, after all BL were tightwads, so they must have put it there for a reason, and I think this is the reason.

i think we are all wrong! heat soak is a normal problem when trying to start the engine when worm so need heat sheild and/or vent

the other part of the statement was that it stalls when pulling away. the answer there would be to use the accelerator when lifting the clutch. lol

if you are using the gas pedal they it could be heat soak but could also be a set up problem, i have had some problems when running a low tickover, i found it best at between 1000 and 1300

yep sounds like heat soak and ure fuel is evaporating in the carb / pump filter etc etc.

i have got 6 holes in the back edge of my bonnet with high power pc fans drawing hot air out but i have not tried it yet (in theory it should work)

First mini turbo to get in the 12's & site perv

Herefordshire

ive never had a carb evaporating problem with mine

i have the bonnet tilted, and made my own heatshield that i pop rivetted on the the throttle cable bracket, that covers the base of the carb and is covered in that heat resistant matting

Nice one looks like the next thing to try is heat shield then.

Nogin im interested in one send me a pm if you have any details on them :)

Did it on way home from work today at 5pm (very hot) but pulled over, waited a bit, then it was ok again. Just been out now having another play with the mapping its cooled down a bit outside and its been absolutely fine.

Would love to put it on the rollers to find the problem, but if it can be fixed first id preffer to do that i cant afford to keep taking it to the rolling road, specially if its something simple.

wish i could plumb the anti run on valve back in but im using daves t piece trick

you can just place another T in there in that line and power it up, so its in the shut position when the ignitions on!
