ok ,back on topic ,,,
if i want to do ext wastegate then i need to mig weld on the cast manifold ....does anyone know what its made of ?? or has anybidy(leaving this mispelling in cos it reminded me of the policeman in allo allo ..) experience with welding onto it ?
thanks
robert.

Will the Turbo elbow be the same material as the cast manifold ? If so you can weld this with a mig no problem. I think you had a look at my cast elbow at Avon ? Where it's been cut, rotated and re-welded. This was done years ago and it's been fine {touch wood} lol. *smiley*

Turbo manifolds don't take kindly to welding at all. They might look good and work for a while, but once you get some good heat in there on a dyno pull, then you'll regret it...

i also wondered whether the 2 head gasket exp was the prob ,so have abandoned that @@ bodge@@ *tongue*and back to one gasket and 8.5 to 1.the gaskets had slipped 3 mm out of alignment which could have allowed the oil to run from oil hole to cyl1.

If you are trying to lower the CR these people will make you a thicker gasket (they cost about £90 and are steel)

thanks scruffmiester ,
yes i saw that
but just was curious to see how well it would work with 2 normal ones , i knew there was a 5.0 mustang that b and m built on a 10psi boost blower motor that ran about 60 dyno runs with no prob ,and it seem it comes down to the deck waterways ,and the location of the gasket ,wether by dowel or not ,. i think the 12 psi boost lifted the head and let the 2 gaskets slide sideways in rel to each other and so stop sitting ring to ring . i like to find these things out myself rather than hearesay ,and it only cost 10 quid to try it !
with petes mini we ran a stainless spacer plate ,with a gasket either side ,and that ran 15 no prob ,for ever and a day ,so i think it needs that steel face either side of the gasket to stick to.and so stop it ever shifting .
im at 8.5 now so not too bad ,and ill just run a bit of water through it for the higher boosts , iv done that on a 9:1 rover at 20 psi with no det so i know that works well.

Yes it's not as good in the eff but look at the flow path as you go down in air consumption then think about the 45mm wheel. Andy got a bargain for a road 998!

Theres putting me on the spot *laughing*

Should have some results by the end of the autumn

spec: 998 std - but blueprinted, morspeed ph2cam, 940 with 33/29 valves, std exhaust/inlet and std box and a monkey x-pin diff. gonne try getting 1bar out of it.

Sorry way O/T, i'll shuddup now *blush*

ok these are prob in the wrong order ,but anyway ....
the gt17 has a v band clamp fitting on the inlet ,so i had to adapt something or get a v band ,so i made this adaptor .its a bit of stainless exhaust ,with a flange the same dia as the inlet ,then a bit of hose and a j clip .seems strong enough to pick the turbo up by and cost was zero so that is that job done ,.
if yuor getting a turbo off a car at the scap yard ,try to get all connections!!

so some painting and wrapping and i ''may'' be done

so far got the turbo and manifolds on the engine ,and the carb, downpipe and heat shielding etc ,blimmen oil feed touched the manifold bolt so had to have the turbo at about 30 deg off true but thats generally ok ,,oil feed and return done and water pipes connected at the turbo end ,need to find some 19 12 19 tee pieces for the water ,.wrapped downpipe very neatly ,then found bloody thing wouldnt go on with the wrap on so had to take it all off !! *angry* *angry* *blush*
tomorrow tappets ,and carb pipes and rest of exhaust , .,,, ill find out if i got the pipe pointing backwards on the down pipe in the right place for the rest of the system ...

well its a runner !!!
boost starts at 1500 rpm ,5 psi by 2300 ,seems very much more responsive trhan the t3 ,the swing to 5 psi happens almost as fast as the swing from full vac to zero so thats all promising ,no smoke to speak of ,what there is si prob out of the silencer ,since the tailpipe was dripping oil!!
interstingly ,its louder by a noticable amount ,and also richer ,,this is with other changes that are up the cr from 8 to 8.5 and timing at 22 fixed instead of 24 .feels as fast at 7 psi as it did on 10 id say with the t3 .
so
so far so good .
