hi guys,

i'm going to be starting my turbo mini project very soon,
so heres some pics for you to start off with,
i will update as i go along.

this is the mini in question:

its a bog std 998 mini, and when i say bog std i really mean it, no rev counter, no radio, no n/s mirror even!
and thats how its staying (to the naked eye anyway)

i'm going for the stealth look, and not telling anyone i know i'm changing the engine, i'm even considering going back to the steel wheels and hubcabs, just put some decent tyres on them.

project will officialy start next weekend,

i need to move these two cars to get to my doner vehicle:

the donor:

complete with mouse nest!

once the cars are out the way, then the engine will be removed and possibly stripped next weekend, ready for machining.

i'm going for a 1293 rebuild
with this turbo:

its a stage 2 hybrid IHI VL7 from a punto GT, i've had it fitted with a 10psi actuator.

i'm hoping to have the engine rebuilt and ready to go in as soon as possible.

the mini will be coming off the road after mini in the park and having its whole front end replaced, new sills and door steps and the bottom of the doors repaired as they are just begining to bubble, and a turbo box welded in.
then she's getting a full respray and new decals. once thats done the engine can then be installed and run in, hopefully in time for the miniworld action day at castle combe.

MAtt.

I'd be interested in the bumpers, arches, bonnet wheels and tailgate etc off the Donor Metro as spares.....

Good luck with the project.

couldn't be bothered to wait till next week lol, this forum has got me inspired!
went down to the metro for a couple of hours this evening, its now just a bare bottom end and gearbox to be removed,
took the inlet and plenum off, the exhaust and turbo off, the head off, and all other ancileries and water pipes.
will get pics up tomorrow.
i would have taken the rest of it out tonight, but dont have an engine crane at home at the moment, its all disconnected ready to be lifted out next weekend.

Matt.

ps, if anyone wants any parts off the donor metro, pm an offer.

A scaffold pole, rope and 2 healthy bodies will lift the engine out with most of the ancillaries taken off, give it a go...

remember to get the car as low as possible and take the rad and slam panel out out of the way.

I've also done it this way many a time breaking old minis, get the car as low as possible as Jon says, then get a trolley jack and raise the engine up clear of any mountings etc.

Get an old tyre for the engine to land on when you have hoiked it out, then 3-2-1 and whip it out and land it on your old tyre.

has anyone on here used an IHI before?

I'm really looking forward to seeing this project completed, I've heard that IHI turbos are pretty good.
