Fastest A Series Mini in the World

leeds/wakefield.

if you remember he had pressure drop on rev increase , diagnosed by T dave as cavitation most probably due to a blockage somewhere in the pickup,
well he just called me ,to let me know he dropped the race oil , put in some cheep stuff and a bottle of flush, ran it for the prescribed time ,then droppd it out , he then stuck an air hose down the block at the oil pump and blasted it back towards the pickup,
to try clear any obstructions stuck on the brickguard,

it worked!!!, he now has normal working oil pressure ,

still a strange one though to begin with , but i at least have learned something new,.lol

Just stumbled across this topic again.

I rebuilt an engine that i originaly built at the begining of the year suffering a similarly wierd oil pressure problem.

Oil pressure ws fine from cold, right up to warm while driving aroubd town or even at motorway crusing speeds. The problem arose after a blst on the motorway where oil pressure dropped right off to zero and stayed there, reving did increase the oil pressure. Turn the engine off let it cool and the problem disspeared untill another blast on the motorway. Every normal resolution was tried, even raising the oil pressure, but it made no difference.

This was brand new sureflow pump and it was checked for debris before fitting.

The onlt thing i could see tht would csue the problem ws the central oil pick up pipe ws of the old type, where the gauze is soldered onto the pipe which is cut at an angle towards the bottom of the sump, the gauze area is reduced by half. There was a lot of crud found on this pipe, probibly collected in the sump during storge.

Replaced the oil pump and replced the oil pick up pipe with the newr design Minispares Item and everything has been fine since.

So, I would concur tht the oil pick up pipe ws caked in crud for whatever reson

Is it A-Series only? I think it should be...
So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

We hqd this problam on a Race engine the problam turned out to be the oil pick up pipe where it is welded/brazed to the plange that bolts to the gearbox there was a very very small hole at this point which caused enuf air to enter the pipe to alow cav it was a brand new item to a little lick with the oxy/ace and all has been perfect since,
the fun of high performance,regards,
Paul.

I find the easiest way is to super glue the bolt to the end of one of my fingers.
