Has anybody power up a MS using a 9v battery while it’s removed from the car? (This would enable me to connect it up to my works PC and play with the map there)

If so, would I need to connect up all the earths (pins 7,8,9,10,11 & 19)?

I did this with my MegaJolt, worked a treat. Can't comment on a Squirt though, not messed with one.

9 volt battery power it fine, it's what they use on the stimulator board.

You don't need to wire all the earths together- thats for the benefit of the sensors.

I'd recommend a decent 9 volt source though, rather than a poxy PP3. Reason being the megasquirt will soon flatten one out, and will then start acting erratically.

I use a cheap wall-wart power supply set to 9 volts for tinkering with my MS.

I have used a 9v battery with no problem. If it is just in simolation and not powering injectors and the like it will last ages.

If you have a spare car battery knocking around that is better though.

Thanks for the feedback, I’ll try the PP3 route initially, as I’ve just purchase the connectors/wire from Maplins. I guess as far as all the earth go, I should connect then all up just to be on the safe side!
