as far as the problem with not being able to get into any other forum than this one, i am unsure, it could be a browser setting, or a firewall problem. The laptop issue, you may find you have a faulty laptop, where exactly is the heat coming from??? |

Does it not have a fan in Nic? When my Toshiba starts getting warm (usually from doing a lot of processing) it runs a fan faster to cool itself down.

Hi, I had a dell inspirion with the same problem, try carefulle breaking the cover in front of the screen off, then loosen the small screws holding the keyboard in place, push it against the screen and lift up, then disconnect the plug for the wires to the keyboard, loosen one more screw underneath the keyboard and remove an aluminium plate, then you can see the fan, loosen the fan and carefully clean the cooling ribs around it, I guess there is 1 ton of dust inside it, its a known problem with the type of computer. A man at the helpdesk showed me how to do this the first time. I cleaned mine at least 4 times a year as it was needed this often! |

I don't understand. You say you can't get on, but clearly you can. What's it say and what does it do to make you think you can't get on? |

Before you take the screwdriver to your laptop you could also try to blow compressed air into where the fan is, helped me out on my Dell one. Another thing to do if you feel up to, if you are already opening up the laptop, is to check whether the heat conducting paste between the processor and heatsink is doing its stuff. I´ve seen laptops where this has totally evaporated and the thing got so hot it shut down!

Gav is it not letting you login? Or you cannot see the forums full stop? If it the former then chances are at work they have disabled cookies so you will be returned to the login screen. If this is the case (and you use internet explorer) then click on Tools > Internet Options > Privicy You should not have a slide bar in front of you adjust it to medium. If this is not possible then your IT department have locked your computer down. If its the latter and you cannot even browse the forum then, I dont have a clue sorry. :( Oh and your IT department might not like you changing your browser settings by the way, which could / could not land you in a bit of bother. need to be on a hard surface or so atleast the processor/fan ins and outs have air round them exactly. having it on your lap will probably block the air vents that are usually on the underside thats why they have large rubber feet. stick it on a tray or something if you want it on your lap. imho "laptop" is a misleading name, they were never intended to be placed on a lap hence why most manufacturers call them "notebooks" instead. some notebooks run hot, my Dell Latitude runs so hot on occasions that i cannot touch the underside. this weather doesnt help. |
