I've used the metal staps that usually hold the plastic engine splash guard in place before - bolted to a couple of head studs.

Lifting eyes?

Although personally I do not like using these as it means slackening off a cyl head stud nut to fit them........

They are indeed tom!

I have since replaced them with purpose made items.

You can bolt on to studs without removing the nut below oon some studs :)

2" wide nylon webbing strap round the manifold and the down round starter etc as you described!

I am sure the lifting eyes do work OK, just my personal opinion that is all!

I have a lift, and lifting eyes, but as I don't have a front end, I find it much quicker and easier to get a mate to help me lift it in.

funny you should mention that. when i was looking for a mini not to long ago, we went to southhampton to look at one. The owner was swapping the engine in another mini, with rope around the dizzy and two of the manifold studs *surprised*

we walked away pretty quick (not sure is the engine was comming out, but still lol)

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

i usually jack it up, get a web strap under the engine mounts then. usually does it a treat.

i would prefer a proper type lift though. it is a lot easier with no front end though.

Somewhere around Swindon

i nearly always remove the head chuck in a couple of headbolts on the front threads and a bit of chain between, this tilts the engine in the same way the factory eyes did making install and removal easy

i have 1 original rover lifting eye here if someone wants to make any

i have a rough copy i made of the rover lifting jig that uses the rocker studs. then we borrow the forklift from the farm and whip it out. it lifts it just the right angle to clear the diff from the bulkhead, subframe etc

Yes I must admit to cutting the seatbelts out of a scrap mini to lift its engine out with!

At one time when I worked at a mini specialists we would on average "doom" 3 or 4 cars per week, now that there are not many left on the roads I sometimes do feel a bit guilty, although most of the ones we "doomed" really were well past it........

Near Daventry, midlands

personally i use nylon rope and tie it tightly around the head, udner the thermostat lump under the manifold and around the lump at the other end. Tie it between the middle two plugs and lift at that point. The whole thing tightens up and lifts the engine out at the correct angle.

Method came from peter calver iirc

I've seen the future and tbh its Pie
