just wondering if anyone on here connects their breathers up to a vacuum on the inlet? Someones told me it gives better performance.

They said also on the plus side that it reduces oil leaks, but on the downside if you have a brake servo it can makeyour brakes worse.

Does it work with our turbo engines?

Near Daventry, midlands

and then what happens when it comes on boost? Nicely pressureised crankcase?

I've seen the future and tbh its Pie

the metro turbo had the breathers connected to the inlet manifold along with the red non return valve. when on boost the valve shuts and the crankcase breathers vent into the air filter box via the small pipe thats just after the filter.

the good point about this is the crap from the breathers does not go all over the engine bay.

the bad points are:
1 the non return valve breaks making a massive boost leak
2 there are a load of pipes you dont need and a mini engine bay is small enough as it is.
3 the crap from the breathers upsets the air fuel ratio ( probably as it cant burn the same as fuel and air )
4 its more to go wrong

the best solution in my mind is to fit a catch tank for the breathers and add an extra breather from the rocker cover for good measure.

The red thing is little more a three way connector with some gauze in it. The non return valve is fitted to the inlet manifold between the breather pipe and the servo pipe.

Isn't there a way of using the exhaust to draw a vacuum for a breather system?

This is called Possative Crankcase Ventilation and use by all modern engines, including the A series ( not modern I know)

It is a crude system though but Visard and a few others tell of a system that works by using the escaping exhaust gasses, Turbo or not.

Watch this space *wink*

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

sure i've read something on here about it i think, seem to remember you need a one-way valve so the exhaust doesn't blow into the crankcase, or worse and spit a flame in there and grenade the whole engine.

alot of the minis over here run a PCV valve, which was was a factory item on a few models. Its the circle part in front of the carb and the seals in it can be easly replaced so there are no leaks. its basically a one way valve which keeps the engine in a vacumn , thus stopping oil leaks blowby and pressure in the engine.

i will be using this exact setup on my turbo motor but connected to the clutch breather instead. these can be bought new out hear and replacment seals are really cheap if bought second hand.
