Just saying hello to all the people at the rolling road day in Lincoln.

Nice to see some very good cars making lots of power and good to meet all of you.

p.s. I hope I can be an honorary member of this site even though I have no turbo.

Dave.

Hello Dave, it was good to meet up with all them other mini owners, and i've got to say I was v.impressed with your car.

Did you manage to get the 100bhp at the wheels you was hoping for?

Can't see if being a problem not having a turbo motor either, mine is n/a at the minute anyway!!

I was impressed with what Mike did setting mine up, its made such a difference. All I need now is good shell......

We didn't manage 100 but now know why. We had discussed altering the cam timing but then after research found that it would not give us what we were after, and could possibly be worse. However I forgot to tell the guy who was timing it up lol. The engine will be out tomorrow and back on the rollers in a couple of days, so all should then be well.

I'll keep you posted.

Dave.

Hi guys.

The car is water blue, similar to surf blue. I come from Stoke, so it's a 2.5 hour journey to lincoln. I really wanted to get the car sorted on the day, she's just had a full rebuild and I'm due to race on May 1st. Still we'll get the bits of problems sorted, get her back on the rollers and I'll have my 100bhp yet. She usually does mid 90's anyway so it obviously has a small setup problem.

Dave.

Well as suspected we did find cam timing problems. A little strange really, the brand new duplex chain was junk after the rolling road session and there seemed to be play in both timing gears. I measured the cam timing and it didn't appear to be consistent. A couple of times it came up spot on, but 3 times it showed 6 degrees out and four times showed 3 degrees out. So I junked the lot and fitted a new vernier kit. Measured it about 20 times and it was right every time. Must get her back on the rollers this week now and finish off getting her ready to race.

I'll be back on just before lunchtime on thursday, hoping of course to make the grunt it should. If everything is right it should just be a couple of power runs. The ignition map is already optimised and the fuelling should be about right. I might try out some prototype trumpets as well if it all goes to plan. Fingers crossed.

Saw TVR dave at lunch, he was just getting the car off the trailer when I got there, within 15mins it was on the rollers, and on its first run it was already doing better than last friday!!

Give us a full report Dave when you get chance?

Well, she did pretty well. Unfortunately she didn't do 100 but managed a solid 95. The power band is now much wider and she makes peak power at 7000 rpm and manages to hold peak up to 8000 rpm. Mid range and bottom end power are both well up too, so i'm fairly happy. Vegard, the cam I use is an STR 930 which seems pretty good. Nice to see you again Dan btw.

Good news dave, did mike have to change the jetting to bring down the rich mixture at all that you had before I left?

Good luck in your next event!!

Yes Dan the jetting had to be changed. She was running rich at the top end. The ignition map was still pefect. If I wasn't so tight I'd put fuel injection on her, lol.
