Too many mixed opinions here. IMO, we should have consistent reports of how crap, average, or excellent the pads are.
I'm certainly not in favour of a set of pads that need me to 'shed solids' before they come good.

Dan - The pads don't feel good at all anymore. I was (naturally) driving slowly after that, and it was clear how innefective they now were when approaching lights - it was almost like my mini didn't have a servo.
I'm not prepared to test these pads any more. They've nearly done big damage once, I'm simply not going to give them anything else.

Another excellant pad for the S is the genuine UNIPART item, they work from cold, well under sprited driving, I used to used them hillclimbing.

That's good John - I have a set of these on the shelf in the workshop. I'll fit these instead!

For me the overwhelming opinion is that they are SHITE!

Ask the same question about Mintex 1144's as an example and I am 100% sure that everyone that had used them would rate them highly.

I have PERSONALLY used Mintex 1144 with CooperS discs setup and a remote servo, you won't be disappointed. I have also used the Unipart standard replacement pads and as Jon says they are a good pad.

In my "professional" day job EBC pads were evaluated alongside numerous others for performance, driveability - this is data logged consistent testing to specified test parameters. Testing was carried out on track under "race" speeds and the EBC greens fared very poorly against the other test pads - Ferodo and Textar in terms of absolute performance, fade and stopping distance (much increased over other pads on test) EBC reds performed similar to the Ferodo race pads in this testing and could be used as alternative to Ferdodo for race use. Road use the greens were non progressive and lacked bite, hence driver lacked confidence, they were very noisy as well - reds were too hard for road use and took time to heat up, once warm worked very well but noisy.

I don't use EBC's on my mini!

If Carling made Mini engines
it would probably be like this one!

Another race tested pad by me is the Mintex 1155, was sold it as the the "pad to have". They only did 4 laps before they faded terribly, foot to the floor, no brakes. Very scarey and 8100 rpm in top on a 3.9 FD on 175/50/13's(someone work out the speed!) when you have to brake off Revvett's at Snetterton.

They ruined the discs to.

I went back to a 2 3rds worn carbon mettalics on the same fluid etc and had proper brakes back.

JF.

** edit, i only drive full on in the mini and metro, so normal road use is not what i am talking about**

Dave...firstly i am glad you are ok ! it could have ended in tragedy !

when i did my vehicle examiners course we learnt all about pad wear and de polymarisation (as with tyres too) any pad which is warm to begin with, or otherwise if hard breaking is applied, and for a duration, the resin in the pad that bonds the compound together heats and becomes liquid, this liquid then comes to the front of the pad and polishes over. once this has happened the pads are goosed ! most pads will do this, but EBC pride themselves on higher op temps etc etc this appears not to be the case ! my advice to you would be to find out what the miglia folk are using and go that route. i presume you will be using "S" brakes. if so, are you using crossdrilled and grooved discs ? this help disapate (sorry spelling) the heat away from the pad....(you know all this anyho)...........however if you are using the cast metty turbo 4 pots which are IMHO whick ! my advice here would be get the ally version (lighter with less unsprung weight)

iam however now lost as iam going to use the mk 1 fiesta brakes (30 quid from my local motorfactors) as they have stainless pistons. i was going to use the EBC green stuff but now am not so sure ? has anyone used the redstuff ones ?

ps i didnt read anyone elses reply in case mine seems totally bollox as usual :)

Obviously so do I then cos I have found them superb from cold for sprinting and do not go away from me on a trackday either but I have vented discs. Far better than the o/e ferodo that is specced for the Subaru justy that the 6 pots use. I agree bedding in is/can be a bas****

i had Mitex 1144 on metty vented disks, they were CRAP!!!!!!!! had to have body building classes for my right leg to even stop from 10mph. they didnt fade but then i couldnt hold the pedal down that long!

changed to EBC Greenstuff and found much better

i know have S discs and greenstuff pads and not so sure about them. (ok not tried any other pad, but any pad must be better!)

i fitted ebc green and turbo groved disks to my 306 Rallye and have to say the original Pug stuff was as better. then tried QH disks and pads and found similar to EBC just much cheaper

Blackstuff on my cooper s setup with groved minispares discs, not had much use yet though. Im going from 8.4" setup though and dont expect the world, though the first thing i will do is a high speed test stop under controlled conditions (after bedding in)

I've seen the future and tbh its Pie

hell sorry to hear that Dave.

I had an older set of the pads (as i told you about before) and there were really bad with brake fad. Every one said that the latest pads from EBC were much better and well worth a go. I now have them in and i have to say that so far they seem fine, they stop me from three figure speed on the (track) down to 0, with out any problems. It's seems to me that there is NO CONSTANCY in the pads, as some people get a good set where others don't.

Yes Dave i still think the mintex pads i had years ago were the best.

I put a set of greenstuffs in my car not long ago,

I'm not that impressed either, but they were cheap and its only a daily driver, it'll be getting mintex's next time!!

I hear what you're saying Pete, but EBC have been clearly f*%king things up for years. The set I put on my mini when they first came out around a decade ago were brilliant - and lasted VERY well. The two different 'green compounds' since then have been very dubious, with many different and vastly conflicting opinions. I don't want to take 'pot luck' on getting a good set.

Consider that out of all the posts here, just one didn't rate the Mintex pads. I will not give EBC any more of my money - ever.

I didn't get round to fitting the Unipart pads, but will do this week. And at some point I'll purchase Mintex pads for a comparison.
