Good afternoon All,

After a week of pissing about with my mini and reading dave's thread on carbs (which have been massively helpful) I'm still left with 2 questions.

1) I think the vac hoses on my plenum are wrong way around. The one on the side (labeled 1 in the link below) goes to the actuator not the the fpr. And the one on the top of the plenum goes to the fpr not the actuator. Does this make a difference? Does the vac/boost read the same throughout the plenum or are these 2 points different?

2) A q about dump valves... but bear with me (i've spent a good hour searching for the answer already) In the pic below, i understand i need to block off 4 (the vent pipe) and to make sure the hose between 3 and 5 is in good condition or to block both ends off. If i don't link 3 and 5 together for the part throttle lean off, can i just block off 3 and use 5 for the vac feed to the DV/ boost gauge? It's after the butterfly so i should see vac. Will it mess up the fuelling?

Thanks all, any help would be hugely appreciated. :)

1) It shouldnt make a difference. So long as both connect to the plenum there will be the same reading from both points.

2) Run seperate lines for the DV and boost guage :) Dont mess with the carb :)

after closer inspection, it seems that all the plumbing is wrong on this car! lol!

Someone has drilled and tapped a nipple in to the boost pipe to the plenum. Then taken a feed from this to a t piece in the compressor housing then to the actuator.

So i've blocked of the nipple that shouldn't be there, blocked off one half of the t on the compressor housing and left the other half going to the actuator. Ordering some new plenum and carb gaskets today as the ones on there are knackered.

The "other half" of the T on the compressor housing is a handy point to bleed some signal off to the actuator with a bleed valve.... *wink*

Good call. It doesn't matter that its blocked now though does it? Just means i'll only get 4psi (or whatever the actuator is set to)

The thing still won't start and run properly, so i'm just redoing everything, then i'll know it's right.

Really frustrating as i messed up my back so i can't do anything on it for a few days. Deadline of the 20th still looming. *wink*

No, it will be fine blocked up.

Why is the 20th a deadline?

2 reasons:

1) it's the day after alex's birthday

2) mini in the park.

Although it's not a great show, i needed to have something to work towards otherwise it would just sit and rot on the drive for the next 4 years.

No rot on mine thank you very much! I can count the times it has been outside in the past 6 years on my hands, and it has been rained on once in 6 years!

Think it's probably a bit late to organise that. Up for parking together with people though.
