is it worth wrapping the manifold when i am not heat shielding the turbo?? i take it the idea is to lower the engine bay temps but if i am not shielding the turbo then wrapping the manifold wont make any difference

i got the exhaust wrap and wrapped the turbo and manifold.

it does lower the engine bay temps and also keeps the heat in so keeping the exhaust pressure up so aiding the spinning of the turbo. but since doing this the manifold has warped so it was tight on the studs. i re-drilled the stud holes and refitted with the wrap and it warped again.

the temp difference is noticable but any performance gains are not unless you have a rolling road. maybe the manifold i have is a one off problem, but then maybe not. also if you use the T2 they suffer from cracking and maybe this is not helped by keeping the heat in.

an alternative could be to wrap the carb and intercooler pipes.

I also did this to but i have not had to remove the turbo or manifold yet so i cant comment ont it warping but it certainly does lower temps a fair bit, i could never touch the plenumn after a good drive where now i can touch it and hold it too.
did you want pics?
