Somewhere around Swindon

run the car up this evening and everything seemed fine, went inside for something to eat and the ketttle to top water up as i ran car up without pressuring system in order to get air locks out

started car again instantly there was a grating noise i switched off and found 4 blades from the fan on the floor, the fan seems to have developed a curve and hit the ultimate engine steady

now last year the same happened and i wonder if the spacer on the water pump was the wrong thickness its about 5mm should it be thicker than this?

i was going to merlin in the morning to buy an electric fan as a backup is it worth junking the normal fan and just running the electric one?

no mate

it hits the overhang of the ultimate engine steady but it only did this after i had run the car up for 5 mins to make sure there was no air locks ........ its very odd

Have you checked that the water pump bushes haven't collapsed, allowing the fan to foul things?

Lucky a blade didn't go through your rad!

I had one that was fitted the wrong way round and on a hard pull away the fan was hitting the hose clip on the water pump and that had the spare fitted too

the fan should run in the couling and thats a couple of inch's away from the head steady.

when you fitted the fan spacer, you did fit it between the fan and pump?

any way the fan only creates drag and an electric one will work better

I have never found an electric one on its own to be as efficient and needed extra cooling when relying on just leccy one

im going to bolt a electric fan on the outside of the rad so its mm's away from the rad like on moddern cars.
but ill have it so it starts when the water reaches 88 degrees and wont turn off untill its below even once the cars off (like on moddern cars).
ill just ditch the mechanical one, this should also help with it all getting up to temperture etc.

cheers
