Anyone know this spring?

Hey guys, just got my block and pistons back from machining and in the box of old pistons which where taken off the old rods was this spring:


No idea what it is, dont think its related to the pistons so more likely to the block, any ideas?

oil pressure relif valve spring, goes in a hole at the left hand end of the block.

Correct, also should be a sleeve that goes with it to seat in the block, and a hexagon cap that screws into the block to hold it in place.

Brilliant, thankyou guys! Another thing i was going ask regarding my block: where they had it so long after they skimmed the top of the block, its gradually gathered some surface rust! what could i use to bring the shine back to it, areas on the face show the machined surface with the hatchings from the tool but some have dark patches and when i rub my fingers over it brown dust appears so im guseeing the start of surface rust?

pm me your address and i will send you some special sandpaper. its called micromesh if you wanna look it up and it's used for polishing aircraft engine turbine blades and scratches out of aircraft winscreens! maybe have some lying around!!!
