what is the safest and largest size valves to go for, i am not after stupid size, and do you need stainless valves for both exhaust and inlet i guess so

depend of which cam you are planing to use,
if you're going for a speciel a seri turbo cam,( ph2, but also 274) go for larger mg n/a inlet and std turbo exh (ie 35.6/29.6).
then you can try a good n/a cam, and use 33 inlet with 31 exhaust, it will work very well!

I had 36x 31 Stainless wasted stem vlaves, ran with no prob's at all on a 1293. My brother has 36x32, again wasted stems, but offset. Very snazzy!
