my oil leaks got really really bad, seems to be leaking from somewhere below the radiator a litre a day just 14 miles.

ive just taken off the radiator, and all the bits to get the timing cover off.

im going to put a new seal behind the timing chain cover, my question is, is there any rubber seals, like behind the pulley or anything?

thanks

james

There is a rubber seal in the timing cover, make sure the rear of the pulley that runs in it is not scored.
There is a half round seal behind the timing cover between engine and box.Last time I changed one of them with the engine in place I had to undo all the bolts that hold the engine to box and prise them apart a bit to get it in.
Also worth looking at would be the speedo drive cover on the end of the gearbox

in that area, working in from the pulley there is,

the crankshaft to pully seal in the timing chain cover.

the gasket for said cover

the gasket behind the plate that said cover bolts onto

the seal between the gearbox and main bearing cap.

think thats all, unless you include the speedo housing.

bah dangerous beat me to it!!*laughing*

There should also be a large tin washer(oil thrower) on the crank,1st thing you see when you take the cover off

Can't remember which way round it goes of hand

Make sure you put the bolts in the correct place because if the ones near the bottom are too long then they will push the timing cover and backplate away from the box. Sounds too simple but its something i have overlooked in the past!!!

hi!!1 just finished thanks alot for all your advice

checked all the places you told me, and replaced the seal in the timing cover.

and thanks for the advice with the bolts too, theyre all in the right places now.

just took it for a quick spin up the road and back, and then watched underneath and not even a drip, should be ok for a while until something else starts leaking!! haha thankyou very much
