i would like to build a gearbox to spec that are okay with hard cornering (well, its mini, and i happen to live in a city of 300+ roundabouts) and i would like to do some track day.

My ideal spec would be std gearbox with SC drop gear, LSD with gentle payload (not hard heavy lb) running on 3.21 FD. to keep the cost down. with CPU pipe.

engibe will be 1293cc with T2 turbo or fiat punto gt turbo. with kent 266 or PH2 camshaft. afterall im not looking for out and out turbo engine.

I am running on 10" with mamba 5.5" wide, it stick out a half a inch out of standard arches.

Would this gearbox be strong enough for booting around the various sized/speed limit on roundabouts.

Or it is really down to suspesion setup? as i dont like to take the engine after couple of thou miles

You won't be able to use an LSD with a 3.2 as even a 3.7 & 3.44 need machining to fit and 3.444 is the lowest you can go.

Other than that I see no other problems with the spec - the important bit being the COPU and you are using sensible wheels not vitara rims!

kent

search for lsd, you may change your mind, i'd personally just go with a crosspin diff.

Try a quaife ATB diff, very user friendly but work extremely well in a road / track car.

Agree but you will not get a cwp for an LSD in that ratio as it will not fit as the o/d for the lsd is too big to fit inside a crownwheel for a 3.2 ratio! Show me a link for an available part and I will eat my words!

If you're willing to machine a LSD and Crownwheel, then crack on...

Harry commented on how much of a pain this was, due to the VERY hard surfaces that had to be machined through.... it wasn't just a hard case-depth, but a high-grade material alltogether.

Some fantastic machining but some very thin bits of metal between the teeth and where the lsd bolts to the crownwheel??

Totally agree.
General 'rule of thumb' is 1x tooth height under the root diameter; but if the bending stresses are low enough then around 0.8 tooth-height is manageable.

I'm pretty sure this will be fine however - but if doing it again, a smaller diameter would be preferable for sure.

Incidentally, KAD have started making some very high spec CWP's which are also priced reasonably. If you have problems with eating pinions like me they're worth considering.

They'll be doing shorter and longer soon though apparently.
