some people including me have given them 16psi of boost and they still hang in there

fast carl has reved the stock! MG metro pistons to over 8k and has got a full seasons racing out of them, on inspection these were fine

As above, you'll have no problems running 15psi or so on them. *smiley*

Boost isn't really your enemy where pistons are concerned, however DETONATION is you big worry, this is what will most likely KILL pistons.

Avoid detonation by- reducing compression ratio, having an ignition system that can retard ignition timing with increasing boost pressure, run decent octane fuel/booster.

If the standard pistons are that good, what are the advantages of using the Forged pistons?

Im about to rebuild and not sure whether to just keep the standard ones in or not?

Advantages of forged pistons is that they have a 15cc/18cc dish to get your CR right down.

also, the forged ones are more likely to stand a bit (notice I said bit!) of detonation.

So would it be be reasonable to think i could lower my comp ratio from 9.4:1 to around 8.4:1 just on enlarging the chambers?

Ive read on other threads that this is a good ratio to aim for for power on and off boost.

By getting plenty of meat out of the cyl head I believe you can get it down to 8.5:1 or less, Benross is the man to ask about this as until recently he was running standard pistons with a large chambered head.

I really want it to be a quick miniturbo as they are becoming more common and i want a bit more than dumping a standard turbo lump in.

So far its a 1293, stage 2 cam, Ul flywheel, cossie intercooler (2wd), stage 4 NA head, ive got nearly all the parts for megajolt now and im just getting the bits for a SCCR box.

The main thing i need to do now is get the CR down to turn the boost up. *happy*

i thought 8.4:1 or there abouts would be a good compromise of track and 'normal driving'?

I'll PM Benross now, Cheers Tom. *wink*

if its bored out +0.020" (1293cc) then you cant use the standard pistons. you have to get +20thou, which you cant get in standard spec, so the world is your oyster
