this must of happened to someone else?
after picking up my new rear subframe yesterday i thought that i would drop the old one off and start putting the new one on...

I managed to get all the bolts undone appart from the two lower bolts that hold the mountings to the floor of the car. These decided to shear off which was great *happy*. this means that i am now left wil two studs in the body of the car which i am unable to get out. i have been soaking them all day but would it be best to cut them off and tap them out? not sure which is the best way to go about doing this

drill straight down the middle of them and se if you can rescue the thread on the captive nut. if you cant yould need to weld in a new nut. :(

Chances are if the bolt sheered so wil a stud extractor.

Par for the cource for rear subby replacement im afraid, think wev all been there!

If the snapped bit is sticking out enough, then sometimes some heat and a pair of mole grips will get them out.

Welding a nut on the end sometimes works too, but they usually snap off flush.

Otherwise you have to drill and tap :(

i had exactly the same problem on saturday when i did mine. only 1 snapped though luckily. used a blow torch and mole grips and it came out eventually. just give it loads of heat and fille 2 flats on the stud then clamp it an it should work.

If it's the front ones, then if you drop the rear of the frame, loosen the nuts holding the rear mounting brackets to the frame so you can twist the brackets thru 90 degrees to make clearance, you might be able to lever the frame off the front bolts... You only need around 1/2" - you can then get a cutting disc (or a hacksaw blade if you're on a budget!!!) and lop it off - leaving enough so you can actually remove the reminants with heat and a set of molegrips...

Don't forget to use plenty of copper grease or similar when putting the bolts back. You never know when it might need to come off again.
