only the head is really different - it the valve stems are different thicknesses its a turbo head.

The pistons are different too, but without removing them you'd be hard pushed to tell what they are.

Any block will do for a turbo conversion though.

"5mm deep: 7.15cc
6mm deep: 8.6cc
7mm deep: 10.1cc
8mm deep: 11.6cc
9mm deep: 13.1cc "

A+ MG 1275 had 6cc pistons - the stock Mini / Metro 1275 has 9cc pistons, the Metro turbo has 12cc pistons

Hence - stock 1275 piston dish will be around 6.5mm deep, the MG piston will be around 8.5mm deep.

I am of course assuming the head is off? If it isn't then just see if there are two different thickness of valve stems. It is pretty obvious to see the difference - especially if the rockers are off. If you can't see a difference - it's probably a stock head (and stock engine?)

If the engine number is still intact, all turbo engines numbers start 12HD26.

I have just looked properly at the EPC and found all the turbo engine numbers*blush*.

There are the two quoted above, which are both MK2 turbo engine numbers, D26 being the later one (88 model year), and there is also 12H959 which is the MK1 engine number.

ok just checked, it is wfm 1024 nw accross the front so i guess it 8nt a turbo block then.

EDIT:- right now iam well confused, i went into my garage and checked the casting number off a block i know for a fact was a turbo engine, and that has the same casting number...am i to take it that Mg did not change the cast for the turbo...are you refering to the above numbers as being the tag on the top of the block normally rivetted on, as this number is 12HC25

It is the number on the rivetted on tag that is the engine number.

I can't find 12HC25 in the EPC. There is E25 and D25, could it be one of these?
