Just trying to find out what happens if you alter the front tie rods length. At the moment mine are extended further than a standard minis, so my wheels sit quite far back in the front arches.

I had the tracking done when i got it on the road and have been running it as it is until i found shockers and cones that im happy with.

Im going to get some red dot ones, and keep the gmax adjustables then get Ace speed minis to to a full car suspension setup (£175) i think this is a fair price?

For now though, ive been wondering what the effects of altering the front tie rods are, and i was going to have a play with them. If i shorten them, and bring the wheels further forwards, what affect will it have on the handling? Just trying to understand why they are adjustable really is it just for the weight distribution?

thankyou *happy**happy*

They are adjustable to go with hi lo's etc, as when you lower the car,as the tie rods are on a arc thge geometry will change

so they are adjustable length so you can get the caster angle back when altering the ride hieght

Sorry, but I disagree.

The caster angle affects the cars natural tendency to go in a straight line. Basically by changing the caster you change the centre the line through the ball joints in relation to the tyre footprint, I hope that makes sense. Too much angle and the car turns into a shopping trolley (very stable in a straight line, but a pig to turn) to little and the car becomes excessively twitchy and you won't be able to keep it in a straight line. I've got a cracking article about it in an old MG magazine, if you want I'll try and dig it out.

In the mean time after having a quick look on google, I found this site:

http://www.ozebiz.com.au/racetech/theory/align.html

It's not great but it's a bit better than my explanation.

I think there is a setup on this site somewhere, think it was about 5 degrees +ve gave good results, less torque steer etc.
