I help out one of my friends who runs a Citreon Saxo VTS in the 750MC Hot Hatch Championship. Whilst at Silverstone today racing the car developed a burning of oil on the exhaust followed by slipping of the clutch. So we reckon the crank seal has gone which is an engine out job.

Anyway, is the clutch salvagable after a liberal coating of oil or is the friction material going to be shagged now??

Thoughts much appreciated.

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Crank seal is not engine out, just take off the gearbox.

The can of coke is OK to use when trying last ditch efforts to either get a car to the end of the race or get it through the last rally stage. However it makes one hell of a sticky horrible fucking mess inside your bellhousing and such should only be used in an emergency situation!

The clutch will be knackered and will need a new one if its had oil on.

The engine is about due for a good check over and a top and tail just to check everything out. Its done half a season and two rallies since it was built by the previous owner. Its just annoying that we are normally running in the front of our class but even with the clutch slip we were only a second off the pace. Its a quick turn around on this one so had better get the clutch on order tomorrow as its a weird one!!
