Nothing much in it, personally I bought mine from Min-its as I knew they would send them quickly and not fuck me about like some others I could mention.

you have a point carl

the A+ rod bolts are more than up to the job i know

but this motor will be taking a few!!! pounds of boost

but....... the power stroke is a compresive load and the bolts dont see that much extra load

Isle of Man

the first 1380 i built i used std everything in the short motor bar a 296 scatter, an ultralite f/wheel and centremain strap, i raped it everywhere until the flywheel fell off, my shift light was at 8.5k, but i used to ignore it all the time, so will have been going in excess of 9k regularly.
still think arp's are worth it on a high revving engine though, just for peace of mind.

anyone know what the rating is of the std type rod bolts, and head studs for that matter?

i.e. 8.8 or 12.9's etc

I used to think like that until one of my end caps let go at 6500rpm and destroyed about 1800k worth of engine ! Steve as i have always maintained for what they cost, its better to be safe than sorry ! are you putting the main strap on too ?

I can see both sides of this debate.....

However, as Richie points out, and in my opinion, they are an insurance policy for the rest of the engine considering how much damage a failure can do.

It is not so much revs that will break them, but cyclical failure over a lot of use, which is why yours will be fine Carl as compared to most you only use them for a very short time between rebuilds.

I've had good experience buying ARP rod bolts from Rocket Industries here in Oz.

The original reason I started to use them was the price, they were cheaper than buying 'genuine' ones from local Mini parts suppliers. This is probably due to the shipping from the UK (vs US) and the idea they had of jacking up their margins I guess.

I also found out they have a higher tensile strength from somewhere (can't remember).

Cheers
