i've got a problem with a 1990 rover 214, the situation is; start the car, foot on clutch, select any gear, lift clutch, NOTHING... no movement at all.can put in any gear with the engine running, no crunching etc...this would indicate a knackered box, maybe diff has broken???

so i've taken the box out, had a look at the clutch and that has seen better days aswell...

so now i'm not too sure what the real problem is???

gearbox, clutch or both?

firstly, are you sure its going into gear? is the gear selector definately working?

you can get a 2nd hand box for around £70, and a clutch kit for about £40, so its not the end of the world to replace both.
saying that i bought a nice 1993 216gti, with honda engine, tax and mot for £100 at the start of the year so.....

Broken Driveshaft. They rust through where the rubber damper is.Look down at each side with the front jacked up and youll see the broken stub spinning or just grab and shake them. They rust down to the size of your finger and fail when you accelerate while turning
