Hi all

Just noticed yesterday that one of my minis did not have a valid tax disk. So i have renewed it today, however how long is it before the £80 fine kicks in? As I have been unable to find any concreate information with regards to the time limit on the DVLA web site or via google.

If you have now renewed it then you have got away with it!

However you have to be very careful as they are dishing these fines out left right and centre, my mate and I got one for the old track car I rolled that had been off to the scrap and crushed, because it ran out of tax and we were a week late sending the logbook in......

Yep, I even sent them pictures to show that the car was destroyed and therefore not on the road but they were not interested... :(

Tried it, all they said was that they now send out letters to confirm when you either scrap or sell on a car so that you knoiw you are no longer liable for the vehicle, hence seeing as we hadn't received this letter we were still liable and it should have been up to us to chase THEM up to avoid the fine.

Bunch of BAC's.

leeds/wakefield.

so lets get this straight. after 14 days they send you a letter asking if you still own the vehicle or if its been scrapped, if you dont respond to said letter they assume you are still running it and fine you ,
even though you may have sent off the log book back as scrapped weeks earlier and it lost in transit,

have i got it right.

No. When you send the logbook off now to either transfer a car to a new owner, or to scrap a car, when they have received it from you and made the changes on their system, they will send you a letter to say that the vehicle has been transferreed from your name and hence you are no longer liable.

I tried the "lost in the post" avenue, their response was that because I had not received from them this conformation letter, it was up to me to chase them up......

In actual fact I didn't send the logbook off as it got forgotten about, but once they have issued the fine you have fucked it to be honest, it seems they will not recind the fine under any circumstance.

First mini turbo to get in the 12's & site perv

Herefordshire

when the sorn first came in the form was a little different, i got sent a £30 fine as i hadnt ticked 1 box on the opposite side of the page to say that the vehicle was stored at the address. I had filled in all the details required that wanted you to state where the vehicle was stored though

fortuately my mum made a copy of my form and i managed to get away with without paying the fine

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

i didnt get fined earlier in the year when i forgot to re-sorn my mini. did it 2 months later and all was fine.

So i dont think its cut and dry as to the 14days thing. or maybe its different re-declaring sorn?

Post Whore

Near Daventry, midlands

last time i taxed the mini, admitidly a while back, i forgot it (and was still driving around) for nearly 3 months and still didnt have any problems re-taxing it. In all fairness i was double jammy since i managed to get in 1 day before it was too late to re-tax in the normal way.

I've seen the future and tbh its Pie

i was 3 months late with mine. it was off the road, no engine and i forgot to sorn it. got the fine through the post so i phoned them.

Told them the situation, declared it sorn over the phone, and told them they would have to take me to court to get the money.

2 months later, heard nothing *happy*
