It runs from one end of the box to the other and is splined.

email the file to alex@dorkish.com and he'll stick it on the TM server. This is better than it going on some random persons own server only to dissapear some months later...

Three photos of the box here, the second photo shows the bearing underneath the idler gear where the layshaft runs, there should be a running surface in there but thats the bit that sheared off the shaft.

Any joy with the word document?

Cheers

Your hardest bit might actually be getting a new layshaft out of JK...

The main shaft is completely stuffed too, the case hardening has worn away...
might go four speed for a bit...

This man can fix any shaft if you cross his palm with silver (or suitably printed folded pieces of paper)...

funnily enough, a mate of mine bought a 5 speed and was told it was the "last one"

I wonder if it's like my boss telling me i had the "biggest pay rise in the company" and then finding out he's said exactly the same thing to nearly everyone else....

My dad should be able to get the shaft welded and machined to create a new bearing surface, in the mean time (for this year at least) I will go four speed to get me on the road before uni and my moms mini in the garage...
Does anybody know the whereabouts of Jack Knight, since i bought their 'last shaft' they have dissapeared off the face of the earth.

Welded then machined?

Wouldnt you be better off getting it electoplated or something to stop the heat from the welding process messing about with the grain structure?
