On the avonbar website it mentions...

"we also recommend once the engine is removed, for those of you that DO NOT have an Injection front subframe that the engine mounting holes in the subframe be redrilled 1/2" forward ( the original holes will almost be touching ) This will move the engine forward which will allow more air around the turbo and just give a little more space."

Anyone done this? Will i have more trouble finding room for the oil cooler? Also, what about the top stabiliser, this will be too small then wont it???

i asked this once ... the feedback was along the lines *it does more harm than good, think of gear linkage etc etc, everything has to move if the engine moves*
so in short, i wouldnt bother mate :)

captive nuts? Whats that? I only have the two holes on each side, with some more holes further forward. The nuts and bolts i have are some short 13mm ones that were on it already.

What he means are the engine mounts with nuts already fastened to them rather than having a nut and bolt.

I dont find fitting the nut and bolt that hard to be honest, also im not keen on the captive nut mounts as you cant put a bar in them to pull the mount into place as you risk damaging the threads, Each to there own *smiley*

Whatever you want really.

yeah thats how i always line them up too, with a long thin screw driver through both holes *tongue*

Could weld a nut on i suppose, but as you say threads can strip! do you usually have the nut on the engine side anyway? I usually put the bolts in the mounts on the engien facing downwards, and put the nut on from the under-chassis side. I find it easier to get the engien out that way as when you jack it up the bolts pop out.

I had captured nuts, but it was more difficult to get the bot in than without.

With the exception of the off side rear bolt I alwas put them in with the nut on the outside. Then, if the nut falls off the engine is still sort of held in.

I would put them all in with the nuts on the outside but I have solid engine mounts and it is actually impossible to get the rear off side one in.

Forgotten more than most ever know

There?s a good compromise. Keep the std engine mount location and tilt the engine forward by fitting a 1/2" longer engine steady from automatic mini (or adjustable one). This is good solution for rod change mini.

For remote boxes all that is needed when moving the engine forward is longer engine steady and a spacer to remote housing rear mount.
