I started to mock up my Fiesta Brakes this morning and I've got a slight clearance issue see here:

Now I belive the drive flanges I'm using are off a metro, as they came with an old set of metro dics & calipers I brought a while back, and they look different to the one on my Mini. But here's a piccy of one of the flanges if it's of relevance:

Now the simple solution is a couple of shims between the caliper and the hub (see the piccy below) which is standard practice on mountain bikes, but is is a sensible option for car brakes, in my simple mind car go fast and weight more, therefore the forces involved are bigger.

As an aside it is worth noting that the distance between the bolt holes on the hub & the caliper bracket (don't know it actual name) are not the same and there's about 20 or 30 thou difference.

If anyone wants any more pics I've put a load on putfile:

I reckon those are 'solid' (ie non-vented) metro drive flanges...
Many have done this without problem.

ah!!

i had an issue like this recenly with kad 6 pots and vents, what i had to do was use the std 8.4" mini drive flange and machine about 10mm from the bell of the disk to restore the disk to where it needed to be.

Dr Jing has details of the fiesta conversion on his website (along with my hydraulic flywheel puller!) probably worth a look if you haven't already.

So can I use a set of 8.4" driveflanges/hubs or must it be a Metro??? And what Fiestas do these calipers come off??

erm I think it needs to be mini hubs and metro "vented" flanges.

You may be able to use the metro hubs too, but i think the spacings will be different as the metro hub is not as heavely machined to clear the disk as the mini hub.

to me BMO your drive flanges look like the vented metro ones rather than the early non vented metro ones but i can't be 100%.

Ok, the hub I used is definitely a Mini hub, and the flange was bolted to a vented disc when I brought it so I'm guessing it's the correct flange.

Looking at Dr Jings pics it would appear that he's using slightly different callipers to me, but I can't see that being a major problem,

Also if you look at this picture from Dr Jings conversion:

There is not enough clearance between the hub and the disc, where as I have too much clearance between the hub and disc see below:

What are people’s views on using shims? Getting the disc machined won't work as need to move the disc closer to the hub/calliper, where as machining the disc would move it further away. So it's either shims or trying a variety of drive flanges :(

Vegar,

From what I’ve read all MK1 & MK2 Fiesta callipers work with the exception of the XR2 callipers as these were used with vented discs, I think they stopped making the MK2 in 1988.

I reckon a washer in there will be fine, after all, radial mount calipers use washers/spacers to space them out to the correct diameter.

The flange looks like the metty one as it seems to have the raised middle to locate wheels, hopefully some washers will sort this out for you.

The flange that DrJin uses is the NAM6450F one from minispares that is used to fit vented metro disks on a mini hub.

I think, but not certain this is slightly different from the standard Metro drive flange. That may be your problem.

The geometry of that flange is exactly the same, the only difference is the removal of the raised middle lugs that locate the wheels, most 10inch and 12inch wheels will not fit over these lugs

Yes I'd agree, I have used standard Metro flanges with the lugs machined off on mini hubs a few times.

Well, three and a bit months on and they are finally fitted to the car:

Just need to bleed them, refit the engine and test them.
