Morning all, i have 2 questions and any help would be very much appriciated.

I changed a rear wheel cylinder last night, but in the process broke a brake line just behind the cylinder. How do i attach a new end to it to bolt in to the cylinder?

Also, it looks like my car has never been fitted with a rear foglight. There's no hole for one, no wiring (that i can see) and no switch at the front. It's a 1981 car. I was sure you needed one for the MOT, is this the case? If so, where should the switch be, i only have space for 4 above the heater (brake test, heated rear window, hazzards and headlights)

Near Daventry, midlands

the brake line starts where the flexible hose ends and is anchored to the radius arm, this short section of pipe can be replaced and will prob only cost a few quid.

I've seen the future and tbh its Pie

yeah, i did the flexis a few weeks ago too!

So i need to replace the whole lot rather than just fitting a new end?

do you have access to a brake pipe flaring tool? you could then reform the end if you do, and you have enough length to do this?

otherwise get yourself to a local motorfactors, they usually have the gear to make pipes up, and if your stuff is new give them you r end bits and im sure it will only be a couple of quid

cheers alex, i have a massive list of jobs, so that'd be cool. :)

Yeah, there is enough spare pipe left. I know someone with a brake flaring tool so i should be able to do that. So, do i just need to buy a new end then?

Fog Light. Cars registered after April 1st 1980 are required to have one

yeah, i should have added to this thread actually. Ring an MOT centre and they told me exactly what you've just said.

Which is odd as it looks like the car has never had one, but has obvioulsy been MOTd before. Nevermind, i guess i'll just wire one in and be done with it.

Ric, if you look in the boot near the offside tail light you should see a spare pair off female bullets, and a hole in the rear valence with a gommet just below the bumper.

The fog light switch was mounted on the right side of the steering wheel on a separate panel.

If you look up inside the dash the wires could just be tucked up out of sight.....If your lucky *wink*

You obviously know more MOT testers than i do. *wink*

Matt, there's no hole in the boot floor or the valance, but it could have been replaced i guess. I'll have a look at the weekend.

or you could convert a reverse light, rather than drilling holes in the body

I put one on just for the mot before with the wire dangling over the seats

ripped it off afterwards

Don't forget you have to have a warning light on the switch so you know it's turned

or thats a fail too

My memory told me the start point for rear fog light was 83, but if the MOT place says 80 then 80 it is!

Brake pipe flared and in post Ric.

I thought it was latter but just googled this

NOT THE FOGGIEST
My 1972 Landrover Series 2A does not have a rear fog light fitted and never has. The MOT Station has failed it because of this - are they right?
According the the Tester’s manual a rear fog lamp is only mandatory for vehicles “first used on or after 1 April 1980.” So it would seem that your Testing station is incorrect in this instance. Quote them the Tester’s Manual, section 1.1 page 4 under the heading “information”. Hope this helps. MOTT.
