If I can get enough people together for a mid-week track day I have the option of booking the Anglesey track for minis only.

We will need a minimum of 30 minis to make it exclusively mini, or 20 minis and 10 other cars is possible. The track will be booked through a track day company which I use quite a lot, so public liability insurance is all covered.

The usual format is for open pitlane days, so you will be able to do as many laps as you like. Separate sessions don't always give people good value for money. It's a case of turn up, go to the drivers meeting, get out on track and just keep going until either you or the car is knackered.

The cost for the full day will be ?99.00.

Please post if you're interested and if the numbers are good enough I'll let you all know the dates I have in mind.

Dave.

I'm hoping for june/july time realistically. Gives people a chance to get their cars ready and hopefully we'll get some good weather.

Trackday cover is up to you to get or not, it's your choice. The public liability just covers spectators and officials but is required.

Definately YES!!!

For anyone interested, Anglesey circuit is (in my 'umble opinion')absolutely perfect for minis. There is one hi-speed long straight that (in my mini at least) was around 95mph before getting on the anchors ready for the long sweeping corner.
With the exception of the hairpin, there is TONS of run-off area, and only a fool goes into a hairpin balls-out on a trackday anyway!

The straights are also very wide, leaving plently of overtaking room...

This is by far my favourite 'trackday' circuit out of the four i've been on... And this is from a man who isn't a huge trackday fan!!!!
oh, and the scenery is just fantastic!!!

D

EDIT: dont take my word for it - check the vids on this page!

oh, if you think because you are insured with HIC you have trackday cover, think again.... The (very small) smallprint shows it's only valid if you are the only one on the track, that you are not racing against a clock, and that the track has FULL saftety & recovery team in attendance!

I won't book it until we have enough people.

20 is a minimum if we allow another 10 cars on other than minis, so i'd say there is plenty of time yet. I have only posted this on here for now but obviously will post it elsewhere if the numbers are too low. I may even fit the passenger seat to my race car and give some people a few laps around the circuit. I'm not doing this for the money, i won't make anything on it and will have to pay myself, but it's useful for me to test the car and I know that people will really enjoy it.

Right then, I've spoken to the track day company and this is the score. We have a few options open to us.

Option 1. Get 30 minis for ?99.00 each and have an exclusively mini trackday event.

Option 2. Get as many minis as we can and allow them to run other cars as well to make up the minimum number of cars required for ?99.00

Option 3. Get 20 minis and have the track to ourselves for ?150.00.

Obviously options 1 and 2 are the best as they cost the least money and, as previously mentioned, ?99.00 is very cheap for a track day, let alone for one which has unlimited track time. I have done events with these people before and, because they are all racers, they make sure that drivers get good value for money and enjoy themselves. They usually provide tea and coffee all day and a bit of soup at lunchtime. They also provide all the required marshalls and recovery vehicles and even offer free instruction in your own car. Dependant on the numbers they may also choose to bring the michelin truck so that new tyres and tyre fitting services are available.

Personally I would imagine that option 2 is the better one. It's always nice to have modern cars to compare your mini to, as well as a few more minis. Also as other people have mentioned, if their mini isn't ready or has a problem, they would then still be able to take part in another car.

For those, like myself, who will have to travel a reasonable distance there will be a camp site at the circuit so that we can arrive the night before and be ready to go first thing in the morning.

As far as dates are concerned I'm hoping to get one sooner rather than later, but am quite happy to hang on for a while so that more of you can get your cars done. If it's a success then I will arrange regular events. I can also get some track events at Oulton Park, Donnington and the Isle of Man, but given that Oulton, for instance, costs approximately ?14000.00 per day to hire, I'm sure that you would agree we'll need an awful lot of minis to make that one exclusive.

So keep putting your names up and any comments or requests that you may have and I'll put all of your suggestions forward to the organisers.

Dave.

Cadwell might be good circuit to try?

Not that im bias because its my nearest track! lol! *smiley*

Camping is a big bonus. I genuinely hope to attend as ive never done a track day. Its good having experienced people there to help you set your car up better. I for one will bring as many tools and spares as possible to make the most of the day!

Off a bit of a tangent but not alot, what are the regs for helmets? ive got one i use for my trials bike, open face so good for being in a car but not sure what approval it has. Would i be better getting say a road bike helmet? Obviously dont want to spend a fortune at the minute unless i get really serious about racing.

Cheers

As far as safety regs are concerned, firstly I don't think that you can spend enough money on being safe. A crash helmet is required for anybody going out on track. Also you will need to wear clothing which covers all of your skin, so no short sleeves and t shirts allowed. Reasonable crash helmets are available for about ?70.00. If anyone shows up with a helmet which is deemed unsuitable I will also arrange that helmets are available for hire on the day.

Personally I use an MSA approved helmet, one piece fireproof race suit, race gloves, nomex balaclava and nomex underwear. Its extremely hot but at least offers good protection.

Don't think that you have got to go out and spend hundreds on safety gear, just use common sense. Once booked you will recieve a set of rules and regulations anyway, so you'll know what is required.

Dave.

Other tips is ensure your car is up to it, brakes, clutch, slave cyl, cooling to name a few.empty car car of clag..coke bottles, maps etc.

For those of you who have never gone full tilt around a track, believe me it is the most fun you will ever have with your clothes on!
