hi

my dad said that his mate has an old head he thinks is off a old 1275 mini, he brings it round and it has the 2 extra holes and big valves in it.
looks like a cooper S head!
needs a bit of tidying and a referb etc
i also need to cheack that its not cracked, best/easy ways of doing this?
if i get it all in good working order, what sort of power increase should i gain on a standerd 1275 motor?
im thinking of building a cheap runaround mini so i dont need to rush the project once iv got all the parts for it!

cheers

You won't gain anything unless it's in pristine condition. The valve throats on the A+ heads are better than the old S heads as well.
Is it a 12G949 or an AEG163?

I'd say "EG16" is in fact AEG163 if you look more closely.

This is an old Cooper S head, they are prone to cracking between the valve seats so look at this first.

there are holes either side of those letter & numbers
yer im going to cheack it over.
what is the best way, is there some sort of method?
would it be worth fixing it if it was fixable?
i could get the head welded up by a good friend for a few beers.

If it is an old S head it will not have valve seat inserts for unleaded use.I would clean it up stick it on ebay and use the funds to go towards
better modifications.

Sound advice IMO. You are much better starting with a 12G940, flog the AEG163 to the period/concours/historic rally boys.

stowmaket suffolk

double check valve sizes as the early 1275gt's had the extra holes as well.

but if a true s head will be worth a few bob

always looking for them bigger bunches of bannanas
