Chaps
building my 4th mini ... this time a turbo !!!

ok the engine is still in the metro , which incedently goes like shite of a shovel !

Been trying to understand how the boost is regulated , and am confusing my self a bit

If the pipe going to the brass bleed on the bulkhead is disconnected and bloked ; the car runs awful ... I guess this is just standard 4 psi ?

PLEASE CONFIRM THIS FOR ME !!!

Now when I leave this pipe open to atmosphere, the car goes blindingly fast ; but still nothing below say 4000 revs

my question is ; should I be now getting boost at low revs ?
Also I am right in thinking that the boost will never exceed 7psi because the actuator will not allow it to ?

I know lots of question but I must understand !!!

I have a VAN a PickUp and two cars if anyone is interested !

You don't realy want to go disconnecting pipes to see what happens, the ecu can dissconnected by pulling the wires from the brass bitty i am sure.

After the ecu is binned it is all down to your actuator.

As you well know that can be fooled into making more boost.

The turbo comes in around 3000rpm and will be well on song at 4000 as you've noticed..

Tip...not too much boost!..it will go bang!!

Thanx for your reply !!!

Well it didnt go bang this time so I guess i got away with it !!!

I guess best bet then is to fit a boost gauge as the one in the metro dont work then play with an adjustable bleed ?

Where should i fit the boost gauge ; there is a T piece near the bulkhead and a black pip that disappears inside the car

is it here i fit the boost gauge ?

CHEERS !

uhm, isnt venting that pipe to atmosphere like running with a bleed nipple full open? i.e. as much boost as teh turbo wil push through the engine i.e. craploads more than 7psi?

turbo 16v k-series 11.9@118.9 :)

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

Yep it is!! Dont run with it open!!!

A bleed valve can be fitted here to regulate the boost, essentially what that other thing does but is electronically controlled.

Fit the boost gauge on the inlet manifold somewhere, this will give you an accurate reading.
