hi, just finshing the bottom end, thought id post what iv done where to see what people think, just built out of bits from my garage really as im a skint student...

early leyland metro block (1275) with a genuine 20k on it
centre strap
duplex timing gears
286 cam( i know its wild!)
uprated oil pump

gearbox
matching leyland box, straight cut tran x drops, tran x 4 pin diff, centre oil pick up

im going to add....(which i already have here)
stage 3 spec head
recon t2 turbo(i know the turbo/cam situation, just want a quick mini, will run the engine at minimal boost, hope the turbo will give it a bit of an edge).
oil cooler
rs intercooler

iv been advised about against the cam here, but spoke to my dad whos mainly building the engine. he advised me to go for it and said be different to what people say, as he couldnt see any problems with my engine plans. he said his engines dont fail, hes been in the business for 30 odd years so thats what we are going to try.after all it only takes a few hours to whip an engine out and change a cam (if its too stupid, or doesnt work).not trying to be cocky, its just what he said/knows. cant afford expensive heads/pistons at the moment.if you treat any engine with respect it will last.

any extra advice/thoughts would be appreciated

ditch the 286 and leave a standard 1275 cam in there, the 286 will make it a pig to drive, it won't idle for shit, and it won't make any more power in the rev range you are restricted to with a standard bottom end.

like i said i cant afford any work done to the bottom end/ head.
its just made from parts from the garage.really im building that engine, its really a toss up between the t2 and a dellorto 45...

i like my minis lumpy, love the rought feel/sound to them, then hitting the open roads, flooring it and fighting to keep it on the road

whats the difference in building a low comp engine, it must rn like a dog all the time when ur off boost, just like a 286 with tidy cr, low boost and a deccent comp ratio?
when u floor it with my enginr/ a turbo it must have the same effect?, even if mine is a little slower...

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

sounds good to me APART!.................

from the cam, tell your dad to dig in his back pocket an purchace a better suited cam

that 286 in a "turbo motor" WILL make the car Very unplesant to drive for the road i can assure you

wild cams above 270ish are not needed in a turbo motor trust us!

wild cams in a turbo motor are fine to talk about when proping the bar up! *laughing**laughing*
