Buy a tax exempt Mini!! Otherwise it may not be legal.

as long as all the running gear etc of the original car has been built into the new shell, and you have informed dvla that you have re shelled the car and they have seen both the donor vehicle and the new shell...to see that you havnt gone onto flea bay and bought a v5 the best thing to do is to ring them !!!!! they will be more than happy to tell you the rights and wrongs :)

Somewhere around Swindon

70% of the original car has to remain iirc... i may be wrong

anything other than the above i would not discuss on a public forum

Cannot make 1 car out of two - if you use 96 car car will have to have 96 reg. Only way to to buy 72 scrapper and buy heritage shell - other ways are known as ringing (allegedly!!) and carry a prison sentence!

legally it cant be done so youll have to buy a tax exempt car. have a read of the dvla website or phone them and theyll send you a form. basically it works on a points system. 1st i think you need a new shell! (dont think your supposed to use a second hand one) then they give you points for each main componet used i.e engine = 1 point gearbox = 1 point axles = 1point steering =1 point etc etc you need a minimum of so many points for (say 5ish) for them to class the car lagit.

i think lol*smiley*

no longer a series, but still 1.3 turbo.

hmmm so going by the dvla there is no cheap option to me then *surprised*( bummer! gutted

i'll have to have a good read of the dvla rules on it, its just that with ppl rebuilding & modfying minis alot of the parts are'nt of the original car anyhow, i will have to stick with my naf white n yellow plates then :o(

Your local old bill must be more lax than mine, they are keen as mustard around here, had a debate at the side of the road the other day about the stick on front numberplate on my track car, despite the fact that it is BSAU 145 marked the copper was still maintaining it was illegal..........

On the grounds that he didn't like it as far as I could gather.

After much pointless time wasting and patronising conversation he eventually let me go on my way......

Been reading up on a bit of this, as with regards to subframes and things needing transfering for the tax exempt to stay, as long as its a new original replacment for the part they can be used. Same goes for the suspension, however id rather get 100% confirmation on this before doing anything like that.

The Police round mine seem to have 'spurts' on different things (that sounds really dodgy lol)
one day its number plates next thing its smoking exhausts!

I left my plates on for my MOT by accident and they MOT'd it as a 1967! Muppets
