Thinking.

Which is always worrying!!!!! *smiley*

I'm considering fitting an in car bleed valve but I know the temptation is going to be to great not to tweak the boost up at the lights.

Therefore is it possible to have a bleed valve set up to say 10psi in the engine bay and then the in car boost valve can adjust it between 0 and 10psi?

Is it worth it??

Thought please.

I think its well worth it. Obviously the minimum it can be set to is fully closed then its whatever your actuator is set at.

What happens is you open the inner one fully, then adjust the under bonnet one till you get your max desired boost. Then you can open and close the inner one with no worry about going over the max set boost.

Put the 3 way valve inline between the actuator and compressor housing then the one that comes out the bottom connect to a 2 way valve in the car.

Just safer thats all i reckon.

How can you set the boost without having the car on the road.

Is it a case of sitting it a 3000rpm till it boosts then adjusting the bleed valve to get it to the boost you want???

A little tip save your money with buying just one bleed valve..

If you find yourself a length of solid plastic or metal that fits inline between your actuater and in car bleed valve, maybe biro thickness. If you carefully drill through it lenght as hole, the diameter of the hole will bleed off a regulated amount out air fooling your actuater just as a bleed valve does. It will be a trial and error to get the correct size hole for the desired boost but you could make a batch up from 1mm up to 5mm or so...

This cheap as chips mod does make a great overboost protecter when the bleed valve is twisted too far open...

This is not a new idea just one that get's overlooked..

what do you folks think?

Estimated cost of engine saving mod would be less than the price of a pint!

yeah that is another way to do it and just have one bleed valve! Good thinking! *smiley*

It is trial and error keith, you need to give it a small tweak then go for a blast and see what it boosts to. Need to get into 3rd gear really and get some good rpm.

It really is small increments though, you'll get the hang of it.

Wasnt too bad for me as i just took the front off and blast up and down the road, keep stopping and tweaking till i get it spot on.

As for location, id probably go with between the seats, much easier to reach, or maybe on the door side of the seats.

Reason for having an underbonnet regulator (bleed valve or drilled tube) is that if the pipe gets split or anything it cant boost to more than the preset value.

If you want to come over to learn a bit about giving it a tweak feel free, i think the actuator arm needs shortening on yours really, its a shade too long and i think it may have the desired effect you want.

Shortening the actuator arm would increase the boost a bit???

Apologies for the questions this week I being exceedingly thick!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

May it also cure the overboosting???

with an in car boost adjuster its easy to adjust your boost when your driving i do it on the motorway. on where to fit ive put mine on the right hand side of the coloum just under the dash not to difficult to reach and out of the way of your mate or misses that might give it a twiddle when you nip in to pay for petrol or get a paper *tongue*

no longer a series, but still 1.3 turbo.

Been thinking about this (Uhoh!!!!!)

Plan - Shorten Actuator arm but leave it as standard actuator.

Fit in car bleed valve.

Tweak under bonnet valve upto 8psi.

Then in car bleed valve fully closed will be standard 4/5psi and it can then be opened tweaked in car upto to 8psi.

If I uprated the actuator this would mean the standard boost being say 8psi and the raised level 10psi which given the fact that the engine hasn't been modified would increase the risk of bang!!!

Is my theory sound??

This will hopefully give me a bit of option to play with the boost whilst driving but keeping it limited to 8psi so as to reduce the chance of engine going bang due to toooo much boost.

This set up could then be retained as the engine is modified - boost upped meaning the tweaking between 8/12psi for example.

Layout:

Actuator - Under Bonnet B/Valve - Compressor
I
In car B/Valve

Look right?
Cheers
Keith
