Whats required to do this, how have others done this and how reliably does it stay in gear.

tbh all you really need is 2 UJ's, good condition engine mounts, and a bracket to mount it on inside.

ive not tried, but apparently is a major pita to fit a hydraullic hammy in a mini, dont know why tho, would be nice... "Turbo's make torque, and torque makes fun"

Its as easy as any car, weld a lever at 90 degs to the handbrake lever, attach this to a hyd cylinder in line to rear brakes....

dont feel bad, if its any consolation, I put my engine mounting bolts in the wrong way too

you just need to make up a fly off hand brake to match
