Is a servo master cylinder baseplate (the pressed metal thing thats sandwiched by the mastercylinders and the cross member and forms the top support of the dog-bone steady) diferent to a non servo one?

Slightly, the earlier plate has a pressed "return" all the way round, the servo type does not have this in the area where the servo frame fits.

It is a simple 10 min job with a grinder to convert an earlier one to fit a servo though.

yep they are different. Same mounting but non-servo assisted brake hole is bit bigger.

Aye, its totaly different, servo assisted brake hole is smaller and off ceter to the mounting holes.

Guess how i know *wink*

Gong from non servo to servo may not be an issue, but going from servo to non, is.

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

yep, the servo hole was 29 mm ish wide, whilst the non servo needed one around 41mm minimum.

took a good hours filing but now im officially non servo!

just one more quicky, is the proportioning valve (on the bulkhead) servo specific, or can i keep that with the non servo set up?

Cheers

You can keep that, but youll have to make up some pipes

if you use pipes of a non servo car, you'll have to drill the bulkhead, fit a captive nut and relocate the valve closer to the master. Thats what i did as M&Ms only had original fit pipes and it was a Sunday with five days left before MOT. Otherwise id have had pipes made.

is the braking much different without? its a pain in the arse, having to remove it, then bleed the brakes when changing an engine

on my list to do is bung a servo back on my road car using braided hoses so i can just unbolt it and hang it over the wing.

....and no the paint isn't very good on it*laughing*

I'll be very honest and say dont bother, there realy isnt any difference in pedal pressure, the pedal travell is a bit longer on non servo and is more progressive.

The space and weight saving out weigh the benifits of a servo, if there are any.
