hi

iv been collecting parts for my mini turbo project, and iv got some bargin stuff so far!

im just wondering what to expect in power and torque from the engine once its put together proply and set up on the rr etc.

1293 block with center manin strap and reground crank (new)
moded head (29cc chambers, 29mm exahust valves and 33mm inlet valves,)
15cc dished omega forged pistons
R5 T2 turbo
metro turbo manifold
metro turbo inlet
forge DV
montego plenum
3.1 final drive
2wd cossie intercooler
stright through single backbox 2" maniflow system (side exit)

there the main bits iv got so far,
still to come, minispares clubman sc/cr gearset, 1:1 sc dropgears, evolution xpin diff, megajolt, arp rod bolts etc etc
but they will have to wait for a bit now as im back at collage and not doing as many hours at work etc untill next year so im absolutly skint atm!!!

what do you all think of the spec then?
it should suprise a few chavs hopfuly!

cheers
josh

anything up to 150 banana's i'd say depending on how well its built and boost levels.

similar spec to my old one which was running 135 nana's and 165 curleys.

im going to run this engine with 10"wheels and im going to make the rest of it as light as possible as im not going to have it as a everyday car as i first was planing to!
i do plan on uprating the turbo aswell once its run in and i want to have more than 10psi (360degree bearing etc etc)
should be fun lol, just need more money!!!!lol

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

as budd says

but... please dont forget a good intercooler on your shopping list, there is a lot of free power to be has with one

as one top turbo guru stated an intercooler is not the icing on the cake its "more Cake"!

also your cam choice is very important as well,
this can make or break the pleasure of driving your chav bashing machine.

As already said, your compressions going to be a bit on the low side.
I would think the most restrictive thing in terms of power could be your cylinder head, you sticking with the stock valve sizes ?

dont know what the stock sizes are mate.
iv got a 2wd cossie intercooler benross
im going to use the phase 2 cam and 1.3 rocker but probs use the standerd type to begine with if moneys a bit tight.
the bits in the first list are bits iv got in the last 3months or so, and then the second is just a few things that were at the top of my head as i posted.
i thought i would be able to use plenty of boost as the cr will be low or will it be to low?
like i say its going to be for trackdays, shows, nice sunny days etc.
iv got a few other bits like the electric fuel pump and regulator and pushrods etc.

cheers for the replys

i would of said 7:1 is too low, id of ran 8.2 -8.0 depending on how much boostage you want

also id put in the cam first off if money is tight, otherwise you'll have to have the engine back out and throw more money at gaskets. I wouldnt bother with the dumpvalve, buy the cam instead, and then put the dumpvalve on later

or just go for cast pistons, they will probably be enough for what you need

these are the bits i have as iv seen them on ebay or on other forums for what i would say good prices.

1293 block with center manin strap and reground crank (new)
moded head (29cc chambers, 29mm exahust valves and 33mm inlet valves,)
15cc dished omega forged pistons
R5 T2 turbo
metro turbo manifold
metro turbo inlet
forge DV
montego plenum
3.1 final drive
2wd cossie intercooler
stright through single backbox 2" maniflow system (side exit)
fuel pump
fuel regulator

im not going to put it together untill i have everthing i need.
im in no rush to do it, i wouldnt be able to insure it yet as im 18 (19 in jan) and been driving just over a year. i want to have the turbo mini and a other mini as a runnerround, so i wouldnt insure 2 minis/cars for a year or 2 anyway.
couldnt i skim the head to bring the cr down or wouldnt i beable to bring it down enough by doing this?

cheers
josh

You want to be aiming for around 8.3.:1 to 8.5:1 C/R

Anyway, the formula one spec cars of the 80s ran 6.9:1 C/R on a witches brew of fuel and produced 1500 HP from a 1500cc engine!!!

well thats going over the top for our humble A series engine

sure your motor will rune fine! but.... you will suffer MPG figures and also under low boost it will turn it into a slug!

i suggest that you have a head cut with the correct valve sizes (ie) 35.6 and 30mm minis pares RACE VALVES and aim for the compression state, indecently I run 8.27:1

your motor will then do the business *wink*

this is only my opinion there are too many permutations

having said that a motor which you are building AT your age!!

will bring enough POWER!....................................................

sorry for the pun ........................................................*laughing*

To make your :arse fall out:! *laughing**laughing*

Oh! dont forget the modified exhaust manifold and elbow
will you
i can provide you and "all our menbers" with this service if you wish ? also the head mods.

Pm me

think iv already bought the exahust elbow plate off of ben H mate
me and my dad are gonna make are own adapting plate for the manifold to turbo, and make the elbow as well.
i think i will aim for running around 17psi with the right mods to the turbo, would that be ok with a 8.3:1-8.5:1 CR? i think ill try it with the head as it and see what happens i can always just skim it!
what are the standerd size valves just out of interest?
by the time i have all the bits and build it etc ill proply be 21 lol.

cheers

right,
so what i will do is, get the head skimed (the bloke iv bought it off says its never been skimmed before so should be ok to do?) and aim for around 8.3:1-8.5:1CR (i dont know how much will be needed to take off to achive this).
and while iv got the head for maching i will get 35.6mm inlet valves, and 30mm exahust valves from minispares put in.
benross can you do all the head work including skimming etc?
if so i will be in touch once iv built it got some money etc, i may even atempt to run it in as it is, and then see for my self the differnce in performance it makes and feel the benifit of the money spent on it etc.

cheers

You really do not understand the basics do you?

I suggest you get the yellow Vizard book and read this thoroughly to gain some more knowledge.

For a start, skimming the cylinder head will INCREASE compression raise. Think about WHY this is the case.

You want to DECREASE compression ratio.

what i have at the moment i have 7.1 cr, this will be to low will it not?
so i thought i would be correct in skimming the head to increase it to 8.3:1-8.5:1CR? as benross has advised.

7:1?

29cc chambers and 15cc dish equates to around 8:1 depending on deck height and head gasket used, this is ideal.
