Ok, the company has rolled out office 2003 along with updating lots of other things.
And now, windows explorer is a load of turd.

Here is an example:

Where the fuck are my thumbnails? Icons are no use to me at all if i have to open the image to see it.

Is there a fix for this or is it tough shit? As usual; the jokers who installed and ran are no use - and just tell me that this is the way it is now. All i want is thumbnails FFS. It still works with bitmaps, adobe pages, etc - just not jpegs / gifs / etc...
The nice simple 'photoeditor' programme is also dead now - replaced with something called 'picture manager' that doesn't even seem to have a 'paste as new image' function???

Thankfully I have irfanview installed (reccomeded*wink*) but this still doesn't sort out the lack of thumbnails in explorer - something that seems pretty basic to me?

Anyone offer any clues on if thumbnails of image files just no longer work on office 2003 (still with Windows Proffesional 2000 - you don't think they'd change that do you LOL)

Cheers;
A very pissed off Dave.*frown*

Here is another shot - note that bitmaps work, but the jpegs and gifs don't... *frown*

That does the same thing as the drop-down...

This looks like an issue of office 2003 being installed over the top of an older platform. I know XP has got the fancy explorer browser - I guess this is just something that I'll have to put up with. :(

**********EDIT**********

Aaaarrgggghhhh!

This is taking the piss now - If i'm in powerpoint and want to insert a picture - I can't even preview the picture I'm inserting - so just have to take pot luck.

Right - that's it. I'm 110% fucking pissed off. Arrgghhhh!!!*angry*

Press the "up" button then highlight the folder containing the pictures, then right mouse click over the folder icon and select Properties.

Hit the Customise tab and select Photo Album.

That should sort it.

well, I've just tried "rebooting it"

ie kicking it once, then kicking it again

But it still doesn't work. In fact it went all blue on me?

But it came back and I tried what Axel said - and I at least now have a preview of each picture i click on appearing on the left of explorer... Still not helping in powerpoint however. :(

Think I'm going to put in a call and get the techies to load XP. They are doing this for selected peeps who have issues not easilly sortable - so figure as i've got 'issues' they'll install XP for me aswell...

*laughing*

It could be that the install has messed up you file accociations. Therefore try the following:-

select a jpg or jpeg

right click > open with > choose program

select windows picture and Fax Viewer

or Paint

Look under the scrollable list there should be a check box which says

Always use the selected program to open this kind of file

tick the box and select ok.

Hopefully you should now get the thumb nails etc. You might have to repeate the process for gif etc if that works.

done that - I don't have the windowspicture/fax viewer now - only the 'picture manager' programme. The install got rid of photoeditor and the boggo picture/fax viewer...
Not a problem now - XP is coming next week. Yippee (not)

windows 2k was never great for media, lacking the preview like with picture and fax viewer in XP. im guessing office 2003 relied on that program to open/preview the files and now there is nothing installed to handle those extension.

do you know if youre running 2k service pack 3?
