Hi,

My friend has dropped a standard metro turbo lump in to his mini.
He wants to up the BHP a bit.

He's just put a ajustable boost valve on it and has it running at 12psi.

From what ive read its safe to run the turbo @ 20psi with a good intercooler.

Will the block take it?

Thanks

20psi on a standard Metro turbo engine with an intercooler? I don't think that would last very long to be quite honest with you, and the chances are the gearbox would expire very quickly too.

In fact 12psi with no intercooler is pushing your luck a bit, I take it you have had this properly setup on the rolling road?

You CAN'T just put a bleed valve on a 20yr old engine, cross your fingers and wind it up to 20psi.

ok - well you can, but you won't find anyone on this site telling you to...

How do you know the head hasn't been skimmed? How do you know your mixture is perfect. How do you know the timing is correct?

Answert to all the above -you don't...

The ONLY way to increase boost is on a RR with an experienced operator who understands forced induction SU carbs.

That aside - a box-stock healthy MG turbo engine shouldn't ever see more thn 12psi IMO. If it is - then you're doing something worng.

The block's the least of your worries, as already said you can't just go turning the boost up on a standard engine that's designed to run 7psi.
I'd suggest doing some serious reading up on the subject, decide what you want from the engine, and rebuild it accordingly.
