well i got mine last night but after driving i have a few questions.

1, whats the recommended level of boost you should be running before add an intercooler?

2, on my current set up i have not got an intercooler (although there is one in the boot) but my acutator is set at 13 psi but on revs when it boosts it makes about 8 then i can hear a sound that sound like paper been blown in the wind, any ideas?

Other than that its very fun to drive

Assuming a standard engine in good order then I personally would run no more than 10psi MAX.

Your "paper in the wind" noise sounds to me like a boost leak, check for split/loose pipes.

well being at a slight disadvantage of buying this car on ebay *surprised* i dont know any compression i've only got the details below

*block bored to 1293cc
*omega pistons 5mm dish
*standared turbo crank
*big vave head, polished ported, broze guides
*new double heavey duty valve springs

but i guess a leak could be the answer as the turbo did seem to stall. i'll have a gander round it later if i can stand the heat.

Thanks, no doubt you'll be hearing from me soon :)

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

or the over boost valve in the plenum is a likely candidate

Out of curoisity, what sort of hp can be expected from a stock turbo metro motor running 10 psi boost?

I'd guess around the 100-105bhp mark? That is purely a guess though.

Yes, you can hear it going "pink! pink! pink!" (seriously).

It is most likely to do it when under heavy load, e.g. top gear 20mph full throttle.

Don't go out and try to make it do it now!

It is usually described as a metallic tinging/cracking noise, however once you know what it is you will always recognise it.

If you hear it BACK OFF THE THROTTLE IMMEDIATELY!

get a tin coffee can ,empty one , and put a small dead wasp in it , then put the lid on and shake it ,thats soft detonation ,now get the same can , and put a 1/2 inch ball bearing in it ,shake as before .those are your two ends of the detonation scale.

just worried about this paper in the wind noise. nut i guess the turbo would continue to boost though wouldn;t it not stall if it was pinking.

if youve only got 5cc pistons then theres a chance your comp ratio could be a bit high (depending on head chambers tho) so i think you need to check whats been advised above then get it to a RR asap befor eyou brake something. unfortunatly its not realy just a cse of turning up the boost. otherwise you could go bang

no longer a series, but still 1.3 turbo.

well i'm gonna run it gently for now, but i think it could be a leaking manifold as i can hear a blowing noise.

i'm taking it to ace cafe tomorrow then when i can fix my other mini....( is see a trend here of broken minis) at teh weekend it'll come off the road so i can sort some guages out and the inside then i will get it rr.

they are so much fun but so much work.
