... my trailer is the type that has a lockable hitch. so once its on the tow ball its very secure and im pretty sure most theives wouldnt be able to get past it. how ever we have a car delivery driver at work that uses a van and trailer. he likes to leave in the early hour of the morning if on a long run. so the night before he loads the car on the trailer on the back of his van with a locked hitch similar to mine and leaves it outside his house. so he gets up at 2oclock in the morning to set off. hears a noise outside, looks out of his window to see 2 blokes pushing his trailer off with a brand new toyota avensis tourer on the back, luckily he banged on the window and they ran off. goes down to investigate and they had removed the 2 24mm nuts and bolts and just removed trailer with the towball still atached, we assume just to bolt to there car.

so im going to weld my 2 big nuts and bolts just incase for all the times we leave mini on trailer in service stations etc

no longer a series, but still 1.3 turbo.

Welding the nuts on is the only way. I just don't know why more folks don't do it as it's so obvious?

But there is no point in doing this if the towcar hasn't got a disclock on it though - otherwise you're making things Waaaaaay too easy!

Welding the nuts is not a good way round it because if you need to remove the bolts because you have damged the plug plate or the ball is worn you will have to cut the bolts what you can do is make some caps to welded over the nuts i used some tube from my roll cage and block the ends off or you can use a bit of box *wink*

Depending on the type of hitch on your trailer, some have two bolts set at 90 degrees that attach the hitch to the drawbar.

Obviously if your trailer is this type then these require welding also.

One of the VERY FEW advantages of a swan neck towbar!

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

guess atleast with detachable towbars they have to have the right type! alot easier to take off if they do though!!!

How about a dab of weld on the end of the threads -would be easy to grind off if you needed to get the ball off and a nice surprise for any would be trailer knickers. That or have a "push to break" switch behind the bolt 'n wired to a small explosive device *smiley*
