I could do with the wiring diagram for one of the BMW models that use the electric master water pump. all i need is (i assume) the engine diagram - basically the one that the electric pump is included on.

Good news is the pump is a brushless, but the controller is built into the back-end of the pump body. I'm damn sure pins 1&4 are ign live and earth, and have a suspicion I know what the other two are - but the diagram would help...

These could well work out to be a cost effective, HIGHLY reliable pump with massive flow potential.
It'd be helpful if you could assist... :)

BMW part number is 11517546994 - fits the 3.0l straight six as a start point - can get hold of wiring loom picture but not diagram - doh!

If Carling made Mini engines
it would probably be like this one!

Ah Bollox. After all that, and i even asked the guy, AND looked on my Laguna, its a fricken thermostat. Ah whell, cost less than a tenner including postage. I'll stick it back on ebay.

Had a feeling in the back of my mind. Knew it was too good to be true, Doh!!!

If your looking for an electric water pump, the renault 21 turbo unit may be of use, it has a good flow rate, my apprentice had a 21 turbo for a while, he had it on the rollers and it was pulling 210 hp befrore they had to abandon the run (suspension fault, they couldnt keep the thing on the rollers), it seemed to be more than adequte for the job?

Thought that was just for the heater and heat soak cool down? Theres one on the Renault 19 also, as on many a Jag, Though, flow rates are small, some have used them to good effect with no issues.

AF,

Are you still at BMW?

Can you get me anything that resembles 'pin outs' or 'testing/troubleshooting' the pump or the pump circuit?

I'm tempted to spend the coin and purchase a WDS / manual, but if you can get me the info i'd sooner buy you a beer LOL

why not just buy a meziere pump from summit? it isnt that expensive from them (still cost a bit tho), and pump MORE than enough for our purpose. It also handles nicely to pump against a thermostat. the only problem with it the way I see it is that it is a bit big and heavy. I cant imagine the BMW item beeing any smaller though...

Simple answer:

I can fully control the BMW unit if i can get a little more info, and i trust it way more than a mezierre to be reliable long-term as it's a brushless motor, which also lends itself to a proportional control better than a brushed unit. Oh, did i also mention I can get new 'take off's for a lot less than the meziere? *wink*

ahh, all good points:) I think the meziere pump is supposed to be pretty reliable though.

Basically the 2005> models with the six-pot motor (E90?). Don't have specifics as I'm not a BMW man at all...

I do recognise quality however, and these pumps are superbly engineered pieces of kit.

Right - unless you want to get into the wonderful world of Bus Networks your out of luck.

The Pump has an ECU built in which comunicated to the Engine Management via a Bit Serial Interface.

Its not a simple PMW signal controling the pump speed, its actual network messages.

Well, I'm not giving up on this. Reason is becuse i am looking at something that appears to look exactly like a brushless speed control. Time to un-solder some contacts and take the board out methinks.

Becuase brushless motors are nothing whatsoever like a brushed unit... The controller is the heart of the unit.

Descision made - I'm going to smoke it or spin it this weekend. :)
