Benson near Oxford

Recently mounted my cooler on top of the front subframe. It basically is as long as the front of the frames bar (not as long as suspension turrets) comes up to the bottom of the dizzy and is about 2 inches wide.

Sounds mental i know but i had it lying around and the shinyness of it just overcame me.

Looking at it and it just looks mental. Been working out (over relentless cups of tea) what are the benefits and downsides to having such a beast to cool the air. I came up with the following.

*Due to its position and size it will have more cold air hitting it ultimately cool the air more. This however; means that there will be a pressure drop as the air cools and it will require more boost to run.
*I phoned up a company to see what it would do performance wise and the bloke said that it would induce more lag.... (understandable but not insanely noticable) id imagine. If it does then surely the above problem will let me crank him up to 10 psi instead of the standard 8?
*cant see it having many probs fitting under my gibreglass round nose but if it does ill just cut away or clubby it.

Your advice on this matter would be much appreciated. Would like to keep it on there but if it is going to be pathetic on the performance then ill just take it off.

Cheers

Chris

why should there be a pressure drop?

if the core looks like it will flow well and there is plenty of air cooling it then it sounds the way to go, an chance of a pic?

I suppose the pressure would drop as the air becomes more dense as it cools.
Cant see it being by much though, and more dense means more oxygen so all the better

Quiet, can you hear it rusting?

chris ,
if the air pressure drops due to the air getting colder ,and ''shrinking'' then the engine can run more advance and create more power IF its octane limited . if you run the same boost as you originally had ,in the plenum , then you will get more power due to the greater density of the air .i run ,what would be normally seen as a v big ic on a 498cc bike engine ,its off a 2 litre lancia .it may make it a bit more laggy , but i dont really notice it ,but it does make it a lot more powerfull ,i figure about 20 % more power ,and that is deff noticeable . so in conclusion , dont worry about it and stick it on there ,you wont regret it .
regards
robert,

If you take the wastegate actuator pipe from the plenium instead of from the turbo,The losses will be balanced out
