Morning, the ballest resisted wire should come from the ignition switch I believe, hope this helps.

I had to do this conversion on my mini, the resistive wire com from the fuse box, so agree with you , pointless to completely rewrap the loom

The wire is normal at the plug connection on the steering column so it must change somewhere in the loom. A mate of mine says the MGB resistive wire is about 10 feet long and loops around so I'm not going to chase it, I'll just run a wire from the fusebox. Thanks anyway....
