Ive heard of one in NZ making something like 365bhp...
Dont recall what sort of times it runs.

Given it is a light car, and has a modern engine fitted.....

It will have a LOT more potential than a Mini.

I guess so.

But so will a mini?

Advantages of the starlet are: Decent engine to begin with, fuel injection, a plethora of tuning information, relativly light weight, etc.
One of those can easilly be made significantly quicker than a mini.

To be honest my reasons for building a turbo mini is because it is a mini, not because I want to be faster than other much more modern cars.

There are plenty of hot hatchbacks available for less than 2 grand-odd that will give your mates Starlet a run for its money if that is what you want to achieve?

Exactly, if your just wanting something that is faster than so-and-so forget a mini. It isn't the best platform for building the worlds fastest chav basher. It is however jolly good fun to drive.

They are a very good car, my housemate at uni had one and used to embarrass a lot of expensive machinery like tvrs and scoobys. His was the earlier ep81 shape one but i understand the ep91 one is better but more expensive. My general road car is the non turbo starlet and its a sound but slow car!!!

im sticking to the mini turbo but just wonderd how it would do up against a starlet turbo. i just wonderd weather i would put my mates 1 to shame in a old mini lol
i reckon it would be interesting to see how a standerd starlet T would do against a 150bhp mini T?
my mate reckons his starlet has 130bhp standerd, could be wrong though?

All depends what your mate is planning on doing with his Starlet....neons, zorsts, stickers, big halloys, and big bumpers won't help him at all! *wink*

I think it should give the starlet a run for its money, given the right driver etc.

well it proply will end up looking a state!
hes spent 8 months putting a combat kit and re-spraying his corsa, all by him self and although its not to my taste hes done a good job i would say considering its not what he does for a living etc it looks profesional!

i reckon he will have a phat sub and sound system, a big zorst or 2! the biggest wheels and the lowest profile tyers he can fit!! lol
we shall have to wait and see but ill probly end up dissapointed, but i would rather have a mini than a modern car anyday of the week.
and i reckon i could get the mini handling better than the starlet.
and im going to learn to drive it propoly. *happy*

I thought of getting a Starlet Glanza V import but they are a bit steep. Not a bad car though, lots of potential for tuning. I think the mini might have him but the Slarlet is more tuneable.

Yeah on high boost mode they are 130 bananas and on low boost they are 11o bananas. Unless its been delimited it will top out at 112mph though!

They are 136bhp in high boost standard.
There is lots of stuff for making them faster but the top speed will still be relatively low,
Because they are limited by law toyota gave them a low ratio gearbox which will cap the top speed even when delimited.

They are quick enough to beat a scooby off the lights but their downfall is the handling which is hideous!!

Constant understeer and a very twitchy back end and thats with proxis on!
The brakes also suck big time.

So all in all you have to hand it to them,
they are little monsters and yes it will beat your mini
but id never have one they are horrible to drive
(and the seats are uncomfortable)

Quiet, can you hear it rusting?

i had a toyota glanza/starlet turbo import, very quick cars but still handle like a granny starlet but they are quick, they do eat clutches though!!!!! big time!!!! they have a reputation for this!

if you have a nice light mini with a good turbo motor depending on spec you may beat a standard one on the drag strip, standard is between 15.5-16 sec quater for a starlet/glanza turbo!

Good cars

SKYLINES ARE LIKE CLITS, EVERY FLANGE SEEMS TO HAVE ONE: see this sticker on my silvia

the Search-section on this forum is blummin superb & simple to use, unlike some other forums, without the search-section & the help of this bunch of chaps on here i'll never be able to !!!Start the day with a 998cc turbo!!! :) i'm getting closer though!
