Currently i have 2 A+ gearboxes. One is a standard metro turbo box (condition unknown) and the second is a reconditioned Minisport A+ gearbox that has only done 500 miles as pictured.

My question is which box would be best used on a turbo engine that will be running about 110bhp initially. I know nothing about the minisort box as it was purchased with a car i bought last year

Not being funny, but surely the answer is obvious? Use the gearbox that you know has been reconditioned rather than the unknown gearbox. Don't expect it to last forever though, even with only 110bhp.

The rebuilt one is the obvious answer but ive heard a lot of negative comments about minisport gear boxes in the past

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

place straight cut drop gears with that box and it will survive 130 ish + bhp for a long while

a worth while investment

Why would SC drop gears extend the box life ???

I sheared the teeth of uite a few A+ boxes. Always the input shaft and corresponding laygear, and it always happened whilst in 3rd gear.

I never had any drop gear issues using the std A+ drops. I even took a couple of teeth of 2nd gear of the Tran-X straight cut box, and the drop gears were always fine.

Oh, and itf its a used factory metro turbo box....more than likely the bearing on the input shaft will be knackered.

I'm not sure that minisport is a good quality shop, and this make me think that they are rebuilding their box with lowcost parts, this said hope I'm wrong.
the box being apart, it's really a pain when you just finished the job, to make it again...
I would rebuild it with high quality components, checking every teeth and more synchros teeths too, shafts wear and laygear bore for wear, quality laygear shaft and needle bearings doesn't cost that much, it's reaaly worth to ma

How can that casing be so clean after running 500 miles?

That pic was taken before i built the engine.

Im going to get the minisport gear box looked at by a local engine builder to see what he thinks, hopefully it will be ok and only need a hardened diff pin fitted (im sure minisport wouldnt have fitted one)
