Ok then people and for those of you that the title meant something to

I have some a college assignment to do for maths, which im utterly crap at, anyway ive worked through most of it, but for the calculation of errors question, the only error ive calculated is my answer:$

i dont want to know how to do it, but i just want a right answer, so i can attempt various methods and get it right myself, as at the moment i have an answer that i dont think is right

So.. in your own time if anyone fancies it

can anyone tell me if

I=bl³/12

what would be the approximate change if b is increased by 3.5% and l is reduced by 2.5%

PLEASE DO NOT SHOW YOUR WORKING, JUST THE ANSWER YOU GET

many thanks

An increase of 2.76%

Using excell, I get an increase 1.042427364

which is 4.2%.

This isn't approximate, but exact however...
I'm struggling to remember this topic. Do you have stroud engineering mathematics?

It a reduction of 4.24%

I originally read it wrong and took the cube of 1.035*b times 0.975*l.

EDIT: Got it wrong again. I think gavs second answer is correct. a reduction of 4.07%

Pretty sure thats right, if you want the solution just ask :), it must be a reduction as the big number l is being cubed with a smaller value.
